I am absolutely rubbish at applying fake tan, but every year I give it a go , follow the instructions to the letter and then spend the next week or so covering up or trying to disguise patchy brown streaks. So although I was tempted by a fake tan review on here I thought it might be better investing in a gradual self tan this year, rather than add to my fake tan graveyard. There are lots of options on the market but I chose St Tropez Gradual Tan because they specialise in tanning products and this has received lots of positive reviews. I bought mine from Boots and it cost around £12 for 200ml. The Product I chose the light/medium version as I have very pale skin that never tans but they do a darker version as well. The product comes in a flip top plastic tube. It is described as an everyday moisturiser which if used daily will not only smooth your skin but deliver a subtle natural looking tan. It looks like a normal moisturiser - a rich white and has a pleasant clean slightly floral smell, not something I would choose normally but there it does a good job of hiding the fake tan smell. It contains lots of unrecognisable ingredients and will last 12 moths once opened. They recommend doing a patch test before using and not to apply to broken or irritated skin. Application St Tropez recommend that you exfoliate using their body polish before applying using a circular motion on your skin. Wait until it dries before dressing. The results My mistake was that the first time I used this I simply slapped it on my arms legs neck and chest slightly haphazardly after taking a bath. I did not exfoliate or wash my hands afterwards and I missed some bits . So as you might expect the results were not perfect and I had the usual tell tale signs of badly applied fake tan. First the deeper colour between my fingers as I failed to wash my hands and darker patchy colour on the very dry patches on the tops of my feet and some patches I missed around the ankles. On the plus side I did have a very lovely subtle tan everywhere else where I had done a better job and I was quite impressed with the results after just one application. The second time I applied this more carefully around the areas that grab product more than others, so knees elbows tops of feet , I applied sparingly. Plus I made sure I applied everywhere without missing bits and voila a lovely even light tan with no streaks. It is quite a nice moisturiser as well and feels really cooling when you apply and apart from the first bodged application it is pretty foolproof . It contains aloe vera which feels really soothing. As I have pale skin , this looks best on the parts of my body that do catch colour from the sun and the colour doesn't look fake or orange , just a healthy light tan. I don't apply this everyday as I find I can apply two or three times a week and maintain a light tan as anything darker would not suit my pale skin tone. It sinks in well and my skin feels and looks better after applying. I usually apply before bed and the colour develops overnight so I am not sure how long it takes before the colour appears. Like most tanning products this does come off on clothing, but not as much as normal fake tan and mostly in the places that get attract dirt normally like necklines collars and cuffs. I advise applying this a while before you dress especially in light coloured clothing. I find I don't need to apply much to develop colour so I think this will last me quite a while. This is aimed at the body but they do one for the face which I haven't tried. Would I Recommend I think this is the best gradual tanner I have used for quite a few reasons. I like the colour which doesn't shout fake tan . It develops a nice colour after just one application , doesn't smell horrendous and is quick and easy to apply. It is virtually streak proof if you follow the instructions properly and doesn't seem to grab onto knees elbows and dry patches as much as other brands. I only need to use a small amount every other day to maintain a light healthy natural looking tan, which makes me feel and look so much better than my normal pasty look. It also makes my skin feel soft and nourished, although I do use other moisturisers as well. I have very sensitive skin with dry irritated patches and have suffered no reaction to this product. It is much easier to apply than a fake tan and much more forgiving if you bodge the application, I have wasted loads of money on fake tans over the years and have never been happy with the results as I think it is really difficult to apply to very white skin. I also find I don't have to worry too much about where I apply the tan as when your skin is very pale, there is an obvious demarcation line where you stop the application which looks really bad , if you wear something that exposes those bits. As you may have gathered I don't apply this all over , just the bits that show I have very pale skin so can't comment on how good this is if you fall into the medium category. Plus I favour a more natural look so if your preference is for a dark tan I can't say whether this will develop into this. Basically I am just grateful for some colour as it makes such a difference to the way I feel . It is more expensive than other gradual tanners but I think it is worth it. Price and Availability I bought mine from Boots but you can get this online from various retailers like Feel Unique and Gorgeous Shop Full price is around £14 but there are usually offers to be had.
Having had a baby a few months ago I was in need of some tlc so thought id start with a tan to stop my skin looking so deathly white. I have never been very good at applying fake tan so liked the sound of this product as it built up gradually which I thought would reduce the risk of errors ha!! I had never tried a gradual tan product before so chose this make as I thought it had the best name and reputation. The lotion is available for different skin types, I opted for the light/medium one as im quite pale. I used it for the first time in the evening. I did an exfoliation first as my friend had told me that would give me the best results. It is so simple to use you basically just apply it all over your body daily as you would with any moisturizer. I was really surprised how well this product moisturized my skin and the great thing was it didn't smell like fake tan! I bought mine from superdrug for £11 but it was on offer so may be more normally. I have been really pleased with the results it does give you a really natural looking even tan! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a gradual tan which is great because no-one suspects you of having a fake tan because it is so gradual they don't notice at much which is a bonus!
So, at long last, I have finally gotten round to using my St. Tropez gradual tan moisturizer, a present that was bought for me almost a year ago. I am a sucker for beauty products, moituizers being my main weakness, but being completely honest, the reason I have never used this gradual tan before, is because the price (to me anyway) is ridiculously high. However, a very kind aunt of mine purchased it me as a Christmas gift, hence, why I am writing a review on the stuff now. The set was this 200ml bottle, and a smaller 50ml bottle, which is specifically for the face. The bottle is very plain and almost clinical looking, but hey, it's what's inside that counts right? and for £20 for this set alone, I was expecting big things. The dispensing nozzle on the bottle is very effective and ensures that you are never left with "Too much" on your hands. The lotion is thick and creamy, and has a nice, summery scent to it. This in particular I liked, as many fake-tans/ moisturizers I have used in the past have smelt horrible. And after reading the bottle AFTER I had applied the tan (Whoops), I found out that this nice scent was due to Aromaguard fragrance technology, which eliminates 70% of the tell-tale self tan smell. The lotion is infused with Aloe Vera, the moisturizer aims to give you not only a golden glow, but smoother skin. Although the lotion did smell nice and seem to soak into my skin, it did take a while to dry, which was a slight annoyance. When it finally was dry, my skin smelt nice however, so the added drying time can be tolerated I suppose. As I was attending a gathering on the weekend, I used this everyday for 3 days, head to toe. I did have a 'glow', but merely a tan, and I would say that from the 200ml bottle, I only have one more application left. I suppose it depends on what kind of look you are going for. I had false hope that due to the expense of this product, it would give me the kind of tan you would get in St. Tropez, however, it was more of a 'British summer' glow I got instead. So, in conclusion, sadly, the negatives outweigh the positives in this case and the St. Tropez will not be added to my list of favourite beauty products unfortunately. Too much money for little results, however, it would be appreciated greatly if other self-tan companies could also use this Aromaguard, as the smell was, one, and probably the only positive of the tan. Thank you for reading.
ST TROPEZ GRADUAL TAN BODY LOTION I usually use St.Tropez Auto Bronzant Lotion but I decided to try the gradual tan as it is cheaper than the auto bronzant. I swear by St.Tropez as I think it gives a really natural looking dark tan and not the dreaded fake orange look. However, I was slightly disappointed with this product. I did find that the lotion moisturises well and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth; it also smells much subtler than other more intense tanning products. Because the lotion is white and turns clear when rubbed into your skin, it is hard to tell whether you have covered an area evenly which can lead to streaks appearing as the tan develops. This is a big disadvantage of this product. I chose the medium/dark version, although I found it to be much lighter than the auto bronzant lotion, even after applying daily for a week. So although it is cheaper than the other St.Tropez products, you need to use much more to achieve the same effect. It does give a light, subtle tan however, I don't think it offers any difference from other gradual tanning lotions, so I would opt for a cheaper gradual tan. For a natural but darker tan I will be sticking with the St.Tropez Auto Bronzant range.
I bought this product despite the price tag, knowing St Tropez' reputation and having read good reviews online. The packaging is simple and professional looking which gave a good first impression. The smell was strong but not particularly unpleasant. I exfoliated before use as instructed and despite the instructions saying 'Don't worry if you go over the same area twice, it's only missed areas that'll look uneven.' I was careful to not go over any sections more than once. I applied it with my palms in circular motions. I had to wait a long time before the stickyness wore off enough to get dressed. Then I put on a loose nightie and went to bed. The morning after, the first thing I noticed were my orange sheets! I panicked but was excited to see my newly tanned skin. The minute I stepped into a better-lit room I could see that my skin was streaky and patchy. I thought it would be okay once I'd washed the guide colour off. So I went and showered it off and dried myself. My skin was still streaky and patchy and I had to buy an instant fake tan product from another company and apply a lot of that to even it out.
Im a big fan of St Tropez products and have been for many years since my mother had me doing her fake tan when I was around 13! When this gradual body lotion came out, i was so pleased! I was also happy to see that St Tropez had changed the fragrance and improved it a lot! Upon buying this body lotion, i was looking for a face moisturiser and after doing a trial run with this gradual tan body lotion, i was amazed to see that it could be used as a facial tanner. Admittedly I dont put loads on, because im naturally quite dark and my skin seems to absorb fake tan very well and has been known to make me look too tanned! My usual routine is putting small amounts on before i go to bed and in the morning i was my face with a flannel to remove any residue and im always left with a lovely glow, much to my delight! I also use this product as a body lotion in conjunction with St Tropez tanning mousse. After exfoliating and showering i use this body lotion as a base before applying the mousse because im prone to dry skin all over my body and often get patches of dry skin on my shoulders. But, i was surprised to see that this body lotion helped a lot!! The consistency of the lotion feels lovely on my skin and it smells lovely!! I also think its very good value for money, because you dont need a lot because the lotion is quite thick. Overall, St Tropez products are brilliant and this relatively new addition to the line is great!!
I am naturally very pale. Sometimes people even comment on the colour of my skin, probably wondering if I am anaemic. I find it is quite odd that these days pale skin is viewed as strange and unhealthy (when in fact tanned skin is sun damaged and there is no such thing as a healthy tan...). Personally, I love being fair and prefer to use creams to enhance my skin's natural qualities, but occasionally, when the sun is out and so are the short dresses, I do succumb to the pressure to look bronzed. Over the years, I have tried many gradual tanning lotions. The first one was Johnson's Holiday Skin, which made me look bright yellow and irritated my skin. Fortunately, lotions have improved since then. In my experience, the more expensive ones are definitely better when it comes to fake tans. My favourite is currently St Tropez, which I bought in Boots for £14. The packaging is very smart: white tube with black writing. Simple, yet it just screams "quality". You don't get much product for the price- only 200ml. I find it lasts me a month as I only have to apply the lotion once or twice a week to get the results I'm after. Most people already know this, but it is essential to exfoliate before fake tanning. I have also read that you can achieve an even better colour by moisturising prior to tan application. I do exfoliate thoroughly with a non-oily scrub, but I don't moisturise. I find St Tropez to be quite rich and it always leaves my skin very soft and supple. Application is easy. I use it like any regular moisturiser but am careful not to miss areas. I then mix it with a regular cream and apply a little to the tops of my feet and hands with a cotton wool pad. That way it looks a lot better once the colour has developed. The lotion is rather thick and takes around 10 minutes to fully absorb. I really like the fact that it does not stain my white towels, sheets and bathrobe. With many tanning lotions you will notice the tell-tale orange and yellow stains. Very annoying! I usually apply this lotion before bedtime and wake up in the morning to a beautiful, natural-looking tan. For my pale skin I need just one application to get bronzed and ready for summer. I then maintain the tan by applying the lotion once a week. I find the colour fades gradually and there are no patches left when it does, as long as I exfoliate thoroughly. The one thing I hate is the smell! It isn't pleasant, in my opinion. My fiancé always comments on the "wet dog" stench whenever I use St Tropez. I guess it's impossible to avoid smelling a little bit with fake tans. The smell is not as bad as that of Johnson's Holiday Skin though. Overall, this is a great product. I use the Light/Medium variety and it works well for pale skin. I never look orange!
St Tropez is known to be one of the best tanning brands on the market and after having St Tropez spray tans done in salons I was advised about he product range and this was the product that took my fancy as I thought even I could do it myself at home. The product comes in a couple of different shades depending on your skin tone. I went for the lighter shade as I am very fair. After using other brands before I have had issues where so called easy to apply tans and no mess tans haven't lived upto my expectations and have left tell tale signs on my skin (and hands even thought I scrubbed them to within an inch of their lives). The tan goes on easy and I also bought the St Tropez application glove to use which means yours hands don't get tanned on the palms. The glove makes the tan glide on easily and makes it easy to go over areas such as your knees and elbows. As this is a gradual tan you can build up the colour over a few days so you don't go to dark too quickly. The colour develops to a nice natural colour even on my fair skin and I made no mistakes. I applied for 3 days to build up a deeper tan and then every 2-3 days to keep up the colour. Make sure you use a body scrub the day before you start applying the tan so that you have removed any hard skin so the tan doesn't stick to certain areas. Pay special attention to your feet where your skin can by drier. I also would reccomend putting a small amount of regular body lotion on your elbows, knees and feet before you apply the lotion so that it acts as a barrier to prevent build up of a darker tan on those areas. Great product and easy to use.
I want to explain the title. My husband is what you would call a mans man! Under no circumstances does he wear makeup and he is a plumber by trade. So set the scene a big balding burly male that only adds shaving, deodarant and a bit of after shave to his beauty routine. We went to Portugal 18months ago and both developed a nice natural tan.I've used tanning creams for many a year and my lovely hubby has never taken an interest in them. One particular day he decided to go back before me and the kiddie's to the villa after a day on the beach for a shower(and to sneak my ST.TROPEZ).The sight me and the kids got when we went back was ace(wont give details!! he just had ST.TROPEZ on haHa anyway ever since we share(but he buys take note girls!) WHY I LIKE ST.TROPEZ & WHY IT LIKES MY HUSBAND MORE! I've tried lots of brands in instant and gradual tanning products, various price ranges so i feel a little bit qualified to review this cream.I bought my first tube of ST.TROPEZ about 3years ago and do feel this is the best out of the range.I find that the cream is of a thick consistency and does not run out of the tube when you tip it upside down so you have to squeeze the tube a little to release the cream. The best thing for both of us is that it doesn't have the usual aroma of other tanning products you can buy which is sometimes one of the tell tale signs of tanning creams along with other pointers. So this is ideal for the secret closet self tanning men out there, that don't want to smell like FAKE TAN!! (THAT IT I'VE SAID THE F WORD IT'S OUT OF THE WAY NOW!) This silky smooth cream feels very luxurious and is easy to apply. It does take a while to soak in but i'm going to mention my routine a bit further on for my recommendations. It's a gradual tan that you can build up over a few days then once you have the desired effect you want , use it twice a week or use everyday.I like ST. TROPEZ because even though my husband and myself have pale to medium skin tones it doesn't look fake. The tan it gives you is a natural looking tan and does have a slight perfume to it but it doesn't give away the normal aroma you associate with other tanning creams and ST.TROPEZ stick by that. They state that it gives off 70%less aroma that makes some tanning creams a bit whiffy!I must admit that it suits my hubby more than me and it's not the way he applies it because i apply it for him!Different skins and skin tones react differently so you should always do a skin test with any skin products. THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND HOW TO APPLY. I always exfoliate with a body scrub paying particular attention to ankles, elbows and i tent to find that all dry parts of the body need this too. After patting myself down with a towel i then apply moisturiser, again paying attention to ankles e.c.t.Leave your moisturiser to absorb say ten minutes or so.When your ready to start use small amounts and rub into your skin, dont worry about applying it over the same place a few times just try to make sure you get an even coverage (i never put it straight onto my knees or ankles i just take it from somewhere else and rub in sparingly). You will be able to see where you've rubbed it in as the cream leaves a nice glow to the skin as it asorbs. It does take a while to soak into the skin so i suggest to leave dressing as long as you can to get the best effect.Be patient and do try to build up the tan as i feel too much too soon can possibly create an uneven tan but so far we have been streak free. THE PRICE FOR 200ml The last time i purchased the cream it was about £15 from Boots. The price's now are as follows BOOTS £14.00 + 48 advantage points BEAUTYENHANCEMENT £12.99 THATS A WEBSITE BOOTS do sell this and a range of different products on line for tips and questions go to www.BOOTS.com They deliver -for standard delivery it's £2.95 on orders over £45.00 it's FREE! THE PACKAGING The tube cannot be missed as it's very distinctive. It has a white background and on the front is ST.TROPEZ in thin black writing Along the right side of the tube / The colour desired is in small writing on the left.Down to the lid it's got a black neck with a white flip top lid on the end. WOULD I RECOMMEND ST.TROPEZ Yes if your a person that use's gradual tan on a regular basis and don't mind paying a little bit more than other brands .ALSO A BIG TO DO IS WASH YOUR HANDS STRAIGHT AFTER or wear gloves.you can buy thin specialist gloves that don't cost the earth and you can wash them after so you can re-use.And also doesn't have a sun factor in it so be careful. It comes in 2 shades FAIR TO MEDIUM / MEDIUM TO DARK THANKYOU FOR READING Summary: Is a bit on pricey side but if used correctly you can achieve lovely results
This summer I really wanted tanned legs so I didn't look like a milk bottle on the beach. I would usually go for something a bit cheaper but as I had heard so many great things about St Tropez I decided it wouldn't hurt to give it a try just once. The Everyday Gradual Tan body lotion is the cheapest self tanner that I could find in Boots that is from St Tropez. It cost me £14 which is a little on the expensive side but on the plus side I suppose I can say that at least I got lots of points on my advantage card! It comes in a plain black and white tube as shown in the picture provided. It is a simple design and nothing too special but I think it still works and makes the product look good. As this is a gradual tan it doesn't turn too dark all at once, which is what I always worry about with instant tans. I put some of this on my legs on a Monday night and on the Tuesday morning my legs looked a little bit sun kissed. I put some more of this on my legs on the Tuesday night and on Wednesday it had developed into a very nice tan. This didn't smell as bad as some fake tans do but I still wasn't keen on the smell as it was definitely very apparent. This did provide moisturisation and I thought my legs looked OK but I wouldn't buy this again. You can get much cheaper alternatives that I think are either just as good or even better. This product is amazing, it gradually builds a natural colour and it adds moisture! St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Body Lotion has a pleasant smell and glides easily onto clean skin, between applying the product in the bathroom and walking upstairs it had dried and I was able to dress with no stress! For the most natural results apply St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Lotion to moisturised skin over a period of days, and you will see a gorgeous sun kissed light bronze colour emerge. You should find, as I did, that one tube (from first application to last) will provide the desired effect, and being such a wonderful product maintaining your new sun kissed, healthy skin by using this product, will be a pleasure. As well as all of that this product has sleek, modern packaging with easy an to use cap and looks great on any bathroom shelf!
I purchased this gradual tan body lotion a few months ago. However I only recently decided to try it. I was expecting to be patchy and orange like other fake tanners that I have used. But this was completely different, the first time I used it didn't show much but then I used it once more and it looked great! The price is really great, and i've used this gradual lotion for about 2 weeks now and I still have more than half a tube left so its looks like its going to last a while. I would defiantly recommend it for a summer glow look. However I would recommend you to exfoliate completely in the bath before you put the fake tan on and also moisturize before hand otherwise you may find yourself to be patchy, especially if you have dry skin like I do. Hope you enjoy looking brown for the summer!
Absolutley love, love, love this product! I have never used any St Tropez products before, but their reputation is one of the best so I decided to give the Everyday Gradual Tan Lotion a go. I have tried so many of the gradual tan lotions (Johnsons, Dove, Nivea etc) and they all look good for a couple of days but then it just goes orange and streaky, leaving your cover blown with everyone knowing you're not a natual bronze goddess!!! As I was going on holiday, I wanted to fork out a little bit more money in the hope that I could avoid this problem and not be totally embarassed to step out in a pair of shorts. Luckily, I discoved this product and all my tanning problems went away. To use: As I have quite pale skin, I used the lotion for light/medium skin. I exfoliated well before I applied the lotion, paying extra attention to my elbows, knees and ankles, as I always make the mistake of not exfloliating well enough in these areas. Then simply massage in the lotion from top to toe. Use daily for a lovely sun kissed look. Make sure the lotion is dry before you get dressed as it can rub off, leaving your clothes orange and your skin patchy. As well as giving a really nice colour, it also moisturises your skin really well, with the aid of added aloe vera to soothe and soften the skin. This was another factor which really sold it to me, as I have very sensitive skin, aloe vera is like a magic ingredient to me. It also contains an Aromaguard technology, which is supposed to reduce the dreaded fake tan smell by 70%. The lotion does have a really nice smell to it and after about 10 minutes there was still no sign of any 'biscuity' smell, I was thinking 'hey, this really works'. But then I suddenly got a whiff of it (Noooo!). Even though you can still slightly smell it, it doesn't even compare to the overwhelming 'biscuit' smell of other brands. I guess there's just no way of escaping it completely. St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Body Lotion is avaliable at Boots.com and larger Boots stores for about £14.00 for 200ml. It is also avaliable at Amazon marketplace for about £11.50. Overall, it's a really great product and I'm so glad I tried it. It gives a suprisingly natural looking colour, which is a really rare find with gradual tanners. It never looked orange, streaky or patchy so I was well impressed. Definately the best product of it's kind out there.
Every summer, before the sun comes out, fake tan is my best friend! The last thing you want to do is step outside with pale legs and so having previously used the St. Tropez tanning mouse, which I thought was excellent, I decided to buy the Everyday Gradual Tan so that I could have a slight glow rather than a full on tan. The colour it created after just one use was a very light glow, as if I'd been in the sun for a couple of days, and the result was flawless no patches or lines, making the tan look completely natural. I have sensitive skin and found that this product was absolutely fine on my skin, having no reaction at all to it and I found that topping it up every few days kept the colour perfectly. The only disadvantage to this product is the smell of it; it really does have that fake tan biscuit smell! But if used at night and then showering in the morning the smell is undetectable the next day. Overall a great product that I have and would continue to recommend!
When St Tropez brought out his new everyday tanning lotion i was really looking forward to trying it. After trying several other gradual tanners that didn't live up to expectations, i hoped that this one would as i am a fan of the St Tropez range. However i was slighty disappointed. I bought the medium to dark variety as i wanted to achieve a deep tan colour. but the result was hardly noticable on my fair skin and even after a few coats , i still looked pale. The lotion is quite thick so i found it hard to smooth evenly over my body, so i found i was quite patchy once it had developped. The hole the product is dispensed through is quite large as well so when you squeeze the product on to your hand, i ve found a large amount is dispensed which again doesn't help with the application. However even though the lotion is thick and i found it difficult to apply and disperse evenly, it does make your skin feel lovely and soft. It moisturised my skin and made it feel lovely and silky - something i wasn't expecting! It also has a more pleasent smell than the usual St Tropez products. Overall i don't think this product is right for me. I wanted a deeper tan, faster so i think i will be sticking to my usual St Tropez moose. Its more pricer, but gets the result i am looking for. I think this product is suitable for maintaining a sun tan, and is not suitable to get tanned coloured skin from scratch.
Bronzing body moisturiser /
