Advantages: natural tan, no horrible smell, easy application, don't need to use much
Disadvantages: a little on the expensive side (but worth it)
I've never been interested in fake tans or building up a tan, I embrace and accept my extreme paleness!
However a few months ago I managed to burn my back and shoulders pretty bad and left with a tan (this is very weird for me...) so now I look a bit weird being brown on top and white on the bottom. I was never that fussed to match it up but I received a free mini bottle of St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Body Moisturiser in Elle the other day and since I was going clubbing that weekend I thought it might come in handy.
I know St Tropez is a very expensive but also one of the best tanning brands on the market so I thought I'd give it ago. The one I got was Medium to Dark which is definitely not what I would have picked out myself as I'm so pale but I thought I would just apply it every other day for a more subtle shade instead of everyday like the bottle says.
So I squeezed some into my hand and smoothed onto my legs, I really didn't need much at all for each leg meaning it's going to last a long time, especially as I'll only be using it every other day as it's too dark for me too. I did one leg and then realised I probably shouldn't have done it over my knee as I've been told tanning stuff around knees is supposed to come out looking weird and it did haha. So I took more care applying it to my other leg, avoiding my knee. The product didn't have a particularly distinctive smell but it wasn't unpleasant and that's good enough for me, I've heard self tanning products often have a strange biscuit smell but this didn't at all. It didn't stain my hands either.
It didn't take long to sink in properly, it left my legs feeling very smooth and soft but I couldn't see any difference straight away but when I woke up in the morning there was a very noticeable difference in colour. Not enough for someone else to notice but I could see as I'm so pale and the moisturiser was medium-dark. There was also no strange stains on my bed covers or pyjamas which i know can be a problem with other products. I applied it again that night I went to bed and then the next day it had worked fully already, my legs had a very natural glow to them which I liked. When I had a bath the colour had faded a little (and I had used a harsh soap and glory scrub) but it didn't go patchy or streaky which is a great plus.
I'm very pleased I received this freebee and I think when I run out I will actually purchase a full bottle although I will probably get the light colour as I've found if I apply this one too much it's too dark and very obvious but I'm sure it'll be better suited to people who are darker or just want to keep the tan colour they already have. I can't really comment on whether it works well for the rest of the body as I only use it on my legs because this is the palest part of me but I'm sure if it works fine here it must do everywhere else as it is an all over body product.
