“ Brand: St. Tropez / Tan / Type: Body Tan / Subcategory: Polish / Tan / Suitable for: Body / What it does: Smoothes, Tans / Contents/Size: 240ml „
I am the kind of girl that on a big night out I want all the frills including a pretty dress, false eyelashes and I absolutely have to wear fake tan! Nobody wants to see my pasty legs out in a dress and so even though I often wear neutral tights with a dress I do think fake tan enhances the whole look. Up until relatively recently I wasn't confident enough to attempt an instant fake tan but probably going back around six months ago I started to use the cheap St Moritz mousse more and more on my legs and so when I opened up a present off my friend at Christmas and found a St Tropez gift set inside I was really excited to give it a go! Inside the set alongside the tanning mousse was also a tan optimising lotion and a body polish and it is the body polish that I shall review today.
I was intrigued by the body polish that came with the set simply because I tended to not do a massive deal in terms of preparing my skin for the gradual tans that I used to use, or even for the St Moritz mousse other than have a good wash in the bath with my shower puff. This body polish though is designed to exfoliate your skin in preperation for tanning as according to St Tropez "smoother, softer skin is our top tip for a natural looking tan".
The bottle that came in my gift set was not a full size one but just a mini version with 85ml of the body polish in. A normal sized 240ml bottle will set you back around £15-£16 on amazon and so this isn't a cheap product by any means. I think St Tropez is certainly seen as the high end of the fake tan market though and I do think that in some respects you are paying for the name as well as quality. You have twelve months to use this small bottle up and I am not sure if the same applies to the larger ones.
The bottle, to me at least, is instantly recognisable as a St Tropez product as it has a white rounded plastic bottle with a black lid. The bottle also has the St Tropez name running down the centre of it as well as the product name too. Instructions for use are printed on the bottle as well which was handy for a novice like me who had no real idea what the body polish was going to be for!
To use this product you are simply advised to apply the body polish on to your skin whilst you are in the bath and then massage it in to your skin in circular motions paying particular attention to knees and elbows and the like which tend to be dryer and can come out wonky when you tan. The body polish itself is a thick white lotion which has small gritty pieces in it which work as an exfoliant on your skin and help you to remove any dead skin cells which would leave you with a less than perfect looking tan. I find that although the gritty pieces in the body polish are really effective at removing dead skin and leaving my skin feeling so soft and nice that it really doesn't feel too harsh on my skin when I am using it and so it doesn't feel like a chore at all to be using it in the bath.
Smell wise this body polish does smell a little bit like the St Tropez fake tan but I do think that in terms of fake tans the St Tropez has quite a nice smell and so it isn't offensive to me anyway.
I tend to use this body polish a couple of times in a week on the run up to knowing that I am going to have to be applying my fake tan for a night out and I have to say I have really noticed a difference in how my tan looks now. This of course may be a combination of using a better quality tan too but even on the top part of my body where I still use a gradual tan I notice that it doesn't cling to around my elbows because this body polish has taken away any rough, dead skin cells.
I do actually really recommend this body polish. I would say there is around half a bottle left and I have used this on average probably once a week since February time and I think that is a reasonable amount to be honest. You don't need a massive amount per application as a little goes a long way and those exfoliating bits in the polish really do work and leave my skin feeling so soft and nice. I think a large bottle would last me some time indeed and so it is likely I will repurchase when this one runs out. You don't even have to use St Tropez tan with this product as it will obviously leave you skin nice and soft in preperation for with any tan.
Thank you for reading my review!
