I have always used hand cream and will always have a few on the go at any one time and I would say that I probably apply hand cream about three times a day on average, and more so if the weather is particularly cold. I had this Sanctuary hand cream as part of a birthday gift but I think you can get it for around £3 to £4. The one I have is different from the one shown and it comes in a white and oragne tube.
This comes in a 50ml tube with a flip top and the opening is wide enough to squeeze a decent amount of cream with one squeeze. The cream itself is white and is quite thick but feels smooth and not greasy at all. It has no smell as it is unperfumed and it is suitable for everyone. A great thing about this hand cream is that it has an SPF of 15 which is great as it is easy to forget to apply sun cream onto the backs of your hands.
To use I will squeeze a blob onto the back of my hand around the size of a five pence piece and find that this is plenty to rub into my hands. I will make sure that I rub it in between my fingers as this is sometimes where I get cracks in the cold weather. It absorbs quickly without too much rubbing and my hands feel soft and hydrated. I have never had any residue left on my hands or felt that I can't touch anything afterwards without leaving behind any remnants of cream. If I put my gloves on soon after using the cream I find there is no feeling of moisture or wetness in the glove as the cream is totally absorbed into my skin.
I do feel that I am giving my hands a good base of protection and I do think that it keeps my hands soft and supple especially during the winter months. The effects last a long time and I highly recommend it for anyone who has dry hands but also for everyone who likes to look after their hands, keep them in good condition and give them a bit of protection against the elements.
The packaging shown is the old design and I actually preferred it to the way it looks here - it's now white and orange and I think the size has decreased slightly too which is a tad annoying. For a while this was the only hand cream I would use and buy. I like to keep a tube of hand cream on my desk at work and this had such lovely packaging and such a lovely smell that it was a favourite. The cost is a little on the expensive side but I think that is because of the branding and the 'luxury' feel that this has and it does make a good present - I've received it as a gift on a few occasions and it certainly looks much nicer than a bog standard cheapy version out of a supermarket! I like the SPF value and my favourite thing about it is the smell, when I used it at work I got comments on how nice the scent was. In terms of how well it works... I don't think it's the most effective hand cream out there so if you have problem dry skin I wouldn't recommend this for you. The plus side is that it isn't greasy and it's got quite a thick consistency so it spreads and absorbs into the skin pretty well. The down side is, if you take it to work, all your colleagues may keep using it too!
I started to develop very dry skin on my hands due to having a hands on job and also because I am out running or walking mountains in all different weather conditions. This meant I needed a very good hand cream so I tried out the Sanctuary one as I have used other products of theirs and been very happy with them.
This hand cream has a Sun Protection Factor of 15 to prevent sun damage, which is great due to the fact that I spend a lot of time outdoors. It also uses the antioxidants of vitamin E and white tea to prevent free radicals that cause aging.
It has that distinct Sanctuary smell that is gentle and not overpowering.
When I first put it on my hands it feels a little greasy but it soon absorbs into the skin leaving it with a soft, coated feeling.
I have been using this product for a month now and my hands are a lot softer then they were.
I paid £4.99 for 100ml from Boots, however they also were selling all Sanctuary products three for the price of two, so its not a bad price for decent hand cream.
The Sanctuary Hand Care
The Sanctuary range offers a variety of different beauty products, all well packaged and very effective. The Sanctuary began as a Spa in Covent Garden over 30 years ago. Their philosophy is all about providing the time, space and expertise for women to renew that glow. I've never been to the Spa but friends have been and they do say that it is a wonderful experience and definitely a very upmarket product. Their hand care products were actually developed in the London Covent Garden spa.
Generally most of the Sanctuary products are packaged in a very distinctive orange colour. I think this gives the products quite an upmarket and classy look and makes you think to begin with that they are a very good product. However, their range of hand care products come in a cream and green colour packaging. The outer portion of the packaging is off white/cream and then on the front is a picture of some flowers/green leaves in a square on the front with the details of the product written on it.
Their handcare products are described as a professional range of products that condition and protect your hands, helping to prevent the signs of premature ageing. They are actually used in manicure treatments at the sap and, according to their website, the range contains the latest antioxidant and moisturising ingredients to leave hands soft, supple and youthful looking. This is good because apparently, no matter how young your face looks it's generally always your hands that give away your true age so anything I can do to keep them looking younger is great!
The Sanctuary Handcare hand cream is described as a "luxurious, nourishing non-greasy hand cream with protective, antioxidant White Tea, UVA and UVB sunscreens helping to defend your skin from premature ageing and helps to condition your nails, soften your cuticles and leaves your hands wonderfully soft and smooth. When I put this lotion on I do find it a tiny bit greasy in the beginning and I can definitely feel it on my hands for a while afterwards but I think it absorbs into the skin well and does leave them feeling really moisturised. The lotion has an SPF of 15 which is great protection for everyday and also vitamin E which is a fat soluble vitamin that maintains cell membranes and offers good protection for the skin. The White Tea extract is a powerful antioxidant which protects against premature ageing.
When I first saw that this product had White Tea Extract in it I actually thought it would smell a bit like tea but unfortunately it does not. This lotion has the same smell as all the other Sanctuary products, a spice smell and the kind that you would get when you visit a spa and have a treatment. It's quite a rich, fragrant smell and if you like that sort of thing then I think you will definitely like this.
A 100ml tube will cost you £4.99 and is available from either Boots or directly from their website at www.thesanctuary.co.uk
I must confess to biting my nails. Every few months I decide to grow them and I have to take really good care of my hands morning and evening, and sometimes at work during the day, to ensure they are soft and pretty so that I don't want to bite my nails.
I use whatever I can get my hands on. I have tried The Sanctuary Spa Hand Cream and I quite liked it. There aren't many hand creams that I don't like though. So long as they are thick, non greasy and moisturise, I'm a happy bunny.
This hand cream is thick and rich and conditions the hands and nails and softens cuticles. This was great for me, as it meant I coudl buff up my nails and keep them feeling lovely so that I wasn't tempted to bite them. I also think it made them a bit stronger but I am sure nail strength has more to do with health and nutrition and lotions and potions so this may well have been a coincidence.
An additional bonus is the spf 15 in there. Hands age us first because they are in the elements the most. This hand cream makes sure the sun doesn't do too much damage the your skin.
The smell of this is not as nice or as strong as many items in the Sanctuary Range. This was the main disappointment for me, as I do love the smell of Sanctuary products. However, it was not an unpleasant smell at all.
The fact that the tube stands on the lid means that the cream is always ready to go and squeezes out easily. So 10/10 for the packaging!
All in all I liked this product but it was not the best hand cream I have ever used. I would buy it again though, if it was on offer!
****The sanctuary spa-Hand cream****
I use this range all the time but not usually for hand cream. It happened to be late at night and i had just run out of my usual so i thought i would give it a try.
I got mine last Christmas and so the packaging on mine is different from the above photo. The bottle on both sits on the lid which is a clear plastic colour, the product looks the exact same apart from the logo so i am going to assume that is the only difference. The lid looks and feels sturdy so i don't think it will break.
It says on it that the product is a light and non greasy hand cream which nourishes dry hands, conditions nails and softens cuticles. In my opinion it felt greasy and my hands even had a shiny look-not in a good way but the sort of look someone's forehead gets when they are sweaty.
Perhaps its because I'm not used to it but i didn't like this product at all,it didn't even smell as good as my normal hand cream .I felt disappointed as it isn't as good as the other products in the range.
