I have to admit I'm a tanorexic, there's no way on this earth I'd use a sunbed...never have never will. So fake is the only answer to turn my horrible looking pale skin into a nice golden olive tan is fake. I first read up about Xen Tan in magazines being "the celebrity tan" and that it offers you beautiful, olive results. As soon as I read that I was sold. First of all I order my Xen Tan dark lotion from Feel Unique as it's much cheaper than anywhere else I've seen, £17.99 + free delivery that's a saving of £11! May be a little expensive to some but you do get 236ml of the product which will give you an average of 10 full face and body tans. Xen-Tan dark lotion comes in a white pump dispenser bottle with the logo on the front in gold/bronze writing. With it being a pump dispenser it makes the application more easier as you can control how much product comes out of the pump. I always use a tanning mitt to avoid getting the tan on the palms of my hands and also for a more streak free application. I use 2 pumps of the product onto the mitt, you will notice how dark brown the lotion is but don't worry, you will also probably notice the smell...it smells like cherry bakewells which I absolutely hate but it's not too overpowering and definitely doesn't put me off. I then start off my tanning my upper body first, starting with the arms and rub the tan into my skin in circular movements, it glides effortlessly onto the skin so no need for any vigorous rubbing. Altogether for a full body application it takes me approximately 10 mins max, and that's with 2 layers. After you've finished you will look extremely dark but don't worry about that, I then give it at least a minute before getting dressed again, just so I don't feel greasy. I always put this on before I'm about to goto bed so I'm not waiting around for the tan to develop, luckily it doesn't stain my white bed sheets like other tans tend to do. Next morning you'll be greeted with a very dark body but that's only the guide colour. Jump in the shower and rinse the tan off, I just rinse it off with water. Now you might see the water running brown and thinking what a waste of time but don't worry once you've got out the shower you should now be greeted with a streak free, even golden olive tan. Xen-Tan can last upto 10days according to the website depending how much you look after your tan i.e.exfoliate and moisturise. Personally I find it lasts around a week or so before I'm reaching out for another top up. Thumbs up from me.
I recently made a purchase of this product, along with the face tanner (which I will review seperately), after much deliberation and unfortunately it has not lived up to my expectations. I have tried quite a few fake tans in my bid to steer clear of the evils of the sunbed and whilst I've had mixed results and found some decent-ish ones I was looking for one which didn't only give me a vague colour but actually made me look brown (and not orange!). I came across an article on Xen-Tan in a magazine and started googling to find out more.....it promised me a lovely natural looking tan, with no streaks and no orange colouring, the website included various reviews and plenty of information and I was impressed by what I saw but ultimately put off by the price. After Christmas whilst feeling particularly pale and in need of a re-vamp (as is usual after the festive season!) I decided to go for it and buy some Xen-Tan. I opted for the dark self-tanning lotion, as my skin is not naturally very pale and I wanted a deep tan. I bought this directly from their website at a cost of £28.99, I may well have been able to find it slightly cheaper from elsewhere if I had spent much time shopping round but I wanted to make sure I was getting the real deal. When the product arrived I didn't waste much time in trying it out! The packaging is very nice & makes the product look expensive and it was well padded for delivery, the instructions were simple and on first impressions I was happy. I opted to just apply the product with my bare hands instead of using a glove or other applicator, it does state that you should wash your hands very thoroughly afterwards if you are doing this (I scrubbed mine with a nail brush & lots of soap), as with all fake tans really, so if you can't be bothered with this then I suggest using a glove of some sort. I will now review the product in accordance with a number of different features, based on the manufacturer's claims vs my actual experience. I have used it three times, once leaving it on for just 4 hours (the minimum recommended is 3) and twice overnight; 1) The scent - This product claims not to have that usual biscuity smell that all other fake tans have, it mentions on the website & on the packaging that this particular fake tan is completely different in terms of it's scent so that you can apply it and wear it all day, to go to work for instance, without smelling of biscuits. I found this not to be true. Whilst at first it does have a lovely cherry-almond scent, which is very nice whilst applying etc, it has to be said that within a couple of hours the biscuit scent surfaced and it smelled just like every other tanning product I have ever used. 2) The application - It has a guide colour which is supposed to help you see where you have applied the product and ensure even coverage. Though it was an alarming dark chocolate colour at first it blended in well and I could see more or less where I had applied it. I think if you have quite pale skin it will show up more & be more useful. Apart from that it is supposed to rub in easily, which it mostly did but in some areas I found it flaked off the more I rubbed it, so I suppose the lesson here is not to rub it in too much! It also claims, as mentioned before, that unlike other fake tans you don't have to make sure you apply it over night as it gives an instant bronzed colour and you can wear it all day. Well, there is no way that I could, I looked like I was covered in mud (much like when I have been for a spray tan before)! It also looked streaky and I would never apply this product before setting off to work in the morning! 3) The coverage - The claim is that this fake tan will not leave you streaky. I have to say that this part is true, I'm not the most profficient self-tan applier but even I found no streaks. It did look very streaky when applied but once I had washed the colour off later it looked very even. Still be careful round feet and ankles though! 4) The colour - The claim is that as this has an olive base you will not be even slightly orange. Well I was! The first time I used this and left it on for 4 hours the colour was not very deep at all, just a slight tan (with a hint of orange), so whilst it says you only need to have it on for 3 hours I would say that overnight is still your best option for a deeper colour if possible. When I have left it on overnight I got a deeper colour but it was most definitely orange based! I wasn't maybe as umpa-lumpa looking as I have been with some other products, but it was more orange looking than natural looking nonetheless - nobody would have made the mistake of thinking that I'd been on holiday somewhere tropical anyway!! 5) How long it lasts - This product claims that your tan will last a week. I found however that it lasts about 2 days as a decent colour with maybe another 2 or 3 days of faded colour. This was the case both when I left it on for 4 hours and left it on overnight. It doesn't last as long as claimed and in this sense is not much better than other products. Also after a couple of days it went patchy looking on my legs, which I think might be somewhat avoided by moisturising daily, which I will try next time I use it. So, in a nutshell, whilst this an ok product, giving you a decent (if slightly orange) colour and being easy to apply, it is not massively different to many other fake tans and has nothing that makes it stand out from the crowd for me. There are other products which give you a streak free finish and other products that are easy to apply and give you pretty much the same colour. Therefore the price is not really justified. If it wasn't this expensive I probably wouldn't have been driven to write this review but for this cost - and with all of its claims - I expected perfection. I will use what I have but I wouldn't buy this again as I am confident that by spending half this amount on a different make I can get the same affect. Sorry Xen-Tan, you just didn't live up to the hype!
There aren't many things I love more than having a nice, healthy glow about me. Having a bit of a tan can make you appear slimmer and always gives my confidence a huge boost, but being very fair skinned naturally, with hundreds of freckles speckled all over my arms and face, it isn't something that I can easily or naturally obtain. If you've been reading my reviews for some time then you're probably well aware of the phases I go through with self tanners. Sometimes I'm completely disgusted by the long wearing ones that stay on your skin for up to a week at a time, simply because they make me feel dirty and other times I just can't get enough of them. I tend to stick to the wash off tanners in winter because my skin s much more dry then and the long wearing ones in summer so that my tan doesn't rub off at the beach. My current favourite long wearing tan is Xen Tan Dark Lotion, and that's what I'll be reviewing for you today. I'd heard plenty about Xen Tan Dark Lotion before actually trying it and it was the promise of an olive toned, streak free, scent free tan that finally pushed me to buy it. Everyone raves about the scent of this, claiming that there is absolutely no biscuity, fake tan smell. It was up to me to decide if they were right! The tan comes in an opaque, white plastic bottle with a pump. Bonus points for the pump! I'm getting sick of brands that think it's a good idea to have a flip cap on the base of their self tanning products - not exactly convenient for when you have a tan-covered mit on your hands for application! The bottle is nothing exciting and I certainly wasn't drawn to it in store, I actually walked right by it before having to go back and look again. The information is all printed on the labels in gold and brown tones which is much more promising that the orange and yellow bottles that some tans come in. I'm told on the front of the bottle that this tan contains rich moisturisers with instant colour for face & body, a natural olive undertone, jojoba nut oils and aloe and it is also streak free. Sounds impressive. The back of the bottle gives the directions and ingredients along with the company contact information. The directions given are simple and easy to follow, but aren't actually well thought out (more on this in a second). "Apply in circular motions to clean dry skin with hands. Use the instant colour as a guide to cover all areas. For best results use our Deluxe Tanning Mitt. Apply a slightly less amount to tops of feet, elbows and knees. Wash hands throughly with water and soap for 1.5 minutes after application to remove all instant colour. After hands are dry use a makeup sponge to apply a small amount of product to the backs of hands. Blend carefully. Wait 3 hours before showering or swimming." Not one mention of how to prepare your skin before using this tan. Strange. I went ahead and prepared my skin like I normally do before tanning, exfoliation and moisturising are always key to make sure the skin is as hydrated and flake free as possible. Surely it would be the same for this? I popped a mitt onto my hands and pumped out some of the thick, dark lotion. It looked exactly like melted dark chocolate but somehow smelled like a cherry bakewell. DE-licious! So far, the scent claim had been true. I worked my way up my body, starting at my feet and ending at the base of my jaw - I never tan my face as I like to just blend them evenly with my makeup. Application seemed rather difficult and the product was actually balling up under the mitt. It seemed to react with my moisturiser, despite having waited 2 hours before going ahead with the tan. Then I noticed the tan had actually started to form a light olive green cream layer over my skin, along with the "balls" of product - not quite the perfect, easy application I had in mind. I blended it all out as best as I could and let it dry overnight. It's safe to say I looked absolutely filthy and was dreading the results I was going to get, but after my shower in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised. There were no streaks, but the colour was slightly too orange for my liking. It wasn't until then that I decided to google Xen Tan and then found out that you aren't actually supposed to moisturise before applying this as it will cause a reaction with the product and make application more difficult and also slightly change the final colour. It would've been really nice of Xen Tan to print this on the bottle as every other tanning product I've used have insisted on moisturising beforehand. I decided to scrub this application off (lemon juice and brown sugar, if anyone is interested) and try again that night. What a huge difference it made. Application was like a dream and even left me with a beautiful tan instantly. This is one of those tanning products that you can just put on and go as it develops as the guide colour is a beautiful olive tone too. I again, left it to develop and dry over night before showering it off and was left with a beautiful, deep olive toned tan that wasn't too dark but wasn't too light. This was a good 3 or 4 shades darker than my natural skin tone but looked the most natural out of any false tan I've ever used. Success! Sadly, the cherry bakewell scent faded over the developing time and when I woke up, I was choked by the unexpected biscuity smell yet again. So close to being perfectly scented, yet so far! Over the next week, the tan faded slowly and evenly, without leaving me with the skin disease look that some tans will leave you with. More tips that I found online advised me not to use a shower gel in the first shower I have after application as it will again react with the product, and not to exfoliate for at least two days. I followed those tips and was left with a beautiful, even tan for the whole 6-7 days that it lasted. Xen Tan Dark Lotion comes in a 236ml bottle and will cost you £28.99 form Debenhams. A very steep price for what seems like not a lot of product, but I've managed to get 10 full body applications out of this bottle, plus 4 upper body applications and still have some left. That's 14 weeks of tan, so it works out quite well in my opinion. I'd love to give Xen Tan 5 stars as they do provide a great tan that I have no complaints about, but the lack of information on the bottle about application and care afterwards along with the biscuity scent that comes through after developing will bring the rating down slightly. Add this on to the hefty price tag and I'll have to give Xen Tan 3 stars. This isn't any reflection on the product itself, but I feel like there should be some changes made to the information on the bottle and maybe a lower price before I can rate this any higher. Thanks for reading!
I need at least twenty four hours notice before a night out, when my friend suggested that we go out for drinks on Saturday night at lunch time that same day I was absolutely horrified as there was no way I could possibly be tanned in time! Yes, that's right, I'm one of those girls that simply can't bare to go out without a decent fake tan come rain or shine. I know there's bound to be people reading this that do sympathise with me, the thought of going out ghostly pale is enough to bring me out in a cold sweat, and I'm sure some of your will understand that... while the rest of you will just think I'm slightly insane! There's something about having a tan that just makes me feel better about myself, not to mention look better too. Luckily a few years ago I realised that sun beds were not the way forward and hit the bottle instead! Now I've currently got about eight or nine different brands of fake tan in my bathroom cupboard, some are there because they're firm favourites whereas some I bought on a whim and simply need to get rid of them but daren't risk using them if I'm going out due to the orange or streaky tan they give me. I actually splurged on a bottle of fake tan at the end of the summer when I must have been feeling quite affluent as I normally tend to stick to cheaper brands where possible. The Xen Dark Self Tanning Lotion is one of my latest acquisitions and it's fast becoming a firm favourite in my bathroom cupboard. Xen Tan is an American brand which came over to the UK a couple of years ago and it's advertised as the most natural looking, moisturing and long lasting fake tan that's apparantly perfect for any skin tone... sounds brilliant! Xen Dark Self Tanning Lotion comes in a rather standard looking white bottle which has the typical pump down white dispenser on the top, this can be twisted around to effectively close the pump to ensure no spillages when it's being carried around and then twisted the other way to open the dispenser when you do want to use it. The bottle itself has some minimal information on the front in gold and brown fonts which shows the brand and product name as well as the fact that this is the "dark" version of the product. On the back is some further information relating to the brand and the application suggestions. Overall I wasn't really that impressed with the packaging, it is quite clinical looking and quite plain too - I think I'd been expecting something a little more exclusive looking or glamourous due to the price tag attached to it. The product itself is dispensed by pressing down on the white pump dispenser, I tend to like these sorts of dispensers as there's no fussing with screwing or unscrewing a lid on when your hands are covered in fake tan. The dispenser releases about three pea sized amounts of the product when you press fully down on it, just enough to coat both your hands without creating a mess or risking wasting any of the tanning lotion. The product itself is a very dark brown colour, darker than melted milk chocolate and more like the colour of dissolved coffee if I'm honest - this did alarm me initially as I was worried that would be the colour I'd end up when using this lotion! It's quite thick in consistency, not as thick as a body cream but thicker than your average lotion which means there's less risk of spillages or it running off your hands. It's recommended that before you apply this product you exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells which will supposedly make the tan last longer and also moisturise any dry areas which will stop the lotion from collecting in these areas and creating any dark patches. The lotion was really easy to apply, I used an application mitt as I always do to avoid orange or unnaturally dark brown hands and applied it with even, long strokes. The lotion was absorbed within about a minute and left my skin feeling really soft and without a hint of grease. Now the one factor that really makes this fake tan stand out is the smell, most reviews of fake tan refer to the "biscuit" smell that seems to be common but this one is actually scented with almonds and cherries - the almonds are really evident and it smells absolutely delicious to me! The immediate effects aren't really very noticeable, there's obviously the fairly pleasant smell and the fact my skin feels softer almost instantly but the lotion doesn't alter the colour of my skin straightaway. I tend to apply this at night and then sleep with it on to let it work its magic! Unfortunately it can rub off onto bedding and clothing so I would recommend wearing old clothing or at least dark coloured clothing, there doesn't seem to be a fake tan out there at the moment that won't leave some sort of residue or stain on your clothing... hint hint manufacturers! In the morning my skin is a gorgeous golden brown colour, it's quite a deep golden brown and not at all like the rather sorry and pale brown that something like Johnson's Holiday Skin Lotion creates. Instead I'm patch free, streak free and a gorgeous tanned colour all over! The effect tends to last a good four days before it starts to fade and go a tiny little bit patchy, however it's not nearly as patchy as some fake tans I've experienced in the past. I either tend to exfoliate at this stage to remove the fake tan from my skin or to apply another layer, you can apply another layer everyday if you wish to intensify your tan although I've only ever done this after two days... don't want to appear tangoed too quickly! The golden brown effect does last longer than other tanning ages I've used, the brand claim to use more DHA (the active tanning ingredient) that other companies and therefore their lotions create tans that last longer. They also advertise the fact that their tans fade evenly too and I'd say apart from patches on the insides of my elbows my Xen created tan does fade really evenly which is a bonus! The site recommends there are ten reasons to love Xen Tan... * It creates the most natural-looking sun-kissed glow. (Agreed, it really does create that warm golden glow that you achieve from sunbathing.) * There's a product that's perfect for every skin tone. (I've been rather brave and opted for the dark one, but there's lots to choose from!) * It's so easy to use, anyone can do it. (It really is easy, even my next door neighbour's two year old could have a good go at it!) * It goes on smoothly for a flawless result. (Agreed, there's no patches and streaks when I wake up after applying this at all.) * It's packed with rich moisturisers that nourish your skin. (My skin certainly feels softer after applying this lotion at night.) * You'll enjoy the long-lasting results for up to ten days. (I think ten days is pushing it, more like a good four to five days!) * Every product in the range smells delicious. (Almond and cherry, a bit like a sweet bakewell tart... no biscuit smell in sight!) * It fades gradually and evenly. (Agreed, except on the insides of my elbows and anywhere dry skin tends to lurk.) * With a range of application options, including lotions, mousses and sprays, there's something to suit everyone. (I have yet to experience the full range!) * Not only is it safer than sunbed tanning, it leaves your skin looking and feeling great too! (A much healthier alternative to using the sun beds.) Xen Tan is already a really popular brand and has recieved a stack of prestigious beauty awards including Harpers Bazaar's Best Self Tan 2009, Elle Beauty's Best Ever Buys 2009 and Handbag's Readers' Choice Best Self Tan 2009 as well... not to mention the blonde_girl774 seal of approval to top it all! The range boasts three different categories; dark tanning, medium tanning or light and gradual tanning. I opted for dark tanning but as I'm actually quite pale medium would have probably been more suitable, but the dark creates a gorgeous tan! Each category contains a range of options; there are tanning lotions, tanning sprays and facial tanning products too. They also offer a facial bronzing powder, a body scrub (to be used prior to the fake tan application) and a tanning mitt to avoid orange hands! So far Xen Tan seems like the perfect brand of fake tan but as with everything that seems perfect there is a nearly always a catch... and in this case it comes in the form of the price tag! Obviously there is some variation in price in terms of where you buy it from, the Xen Tan site recommends that a 236ml bottle of lotion sells at £25.95 which is the price you will find it at in high street stores such as Debenhams. However if you look around online you can normally find it a little cheaper, Feel Unique are currently offering it at £17.99 including delivery which seems like a much better option to me. I've had my bottle for a couple of months now and absolutely love this stuff, for day to day wearing I do tend to use a cheaper branded product but at the weekend this is always what comes out... five stars! Thanks for reading.
This is the best fake tan around! I love it. I have been using it for about 6 years now after discovering it in the back of a magazine. I always use this dark lotion as it gives of the best colour against my skin tone. After a good exfoliation scrub before applying it it goes on really well and comes out very dark brown so you can see exactly where its going to prevent steaks. It also has a really coco smell to it unlike other fake tanning products. It develops in a few hours and then you can wash it off although i use it before bed and wash off in the morning for a better result. It comes as a push down spout making it easy to disperse so you're not having to struggle squeezing a tube to death when your almost at the end! Would definatley recommend trying for a more bronzed than orange look.
This is the best fake tan I have ever tried and I have tried just about all of them over the years. I tend to put it on after a shower and leave it on over night , it looks very dark before you have a shower but develops in to an even tan not at all streaky or orange looking. I like to apply it twice or three times a week to keep it topped up. I find I need to apply it more often to my face and mix it with a bit of every day cream , this helps to keep it even. This fake tan also smells much more pleasant than most with an almond sweet fragrance , you don't get that awful stench you get with most other fake tans , so as I mentioned earlier can go to bed with it over night and shower in the morning. Xen tan is also a much more realistic price than the leading brands and I will not be changing my fake tan again in the near future.
This is the only self tan for me, but shhh don't tell anyone it's fake! Whenever I use Xen Tan people ask me if i've been on holiday because of the great colour it gives, even on my English Rose complection. It's not the cheapest tanning lotion on the market at between £20 and £28 for 236mls, but since using it I won't waste my money on the cheaper ones anymore. I find that the 236ml bottle lasts about 6-8 weeks, applying once a week. It has an easy pump action which saves mess and seems sturdy enough not to break before you finish what's in the bottle! It's a rich lotion that you can apply all over (I put it on my face too) then you leave it to develop for hours before you rinse off with water. The key points that set this product apart from the rest are: The smell - almond & cherry, very pleasant. The guide colour - helps to apply evenly. Nice texture - not oily, or greasy and rubs in easily. Develops in 3 hours and lasts up to a week. Gives a really lovely olive tan tt looknatural even on pale skin. One thing I would say is that it's really ard to get off your hands! I have found that fairy liquid gets it off quite well but even beter is to wear rubber gloves. Another good tip is to use a very slightly damp flanel to gently wipe over the underside of your arms to take off a bit of colour as this makes your tan look more natural. Overall best fake tan I have used, and i've tried a lot!
Im always online looking for new fake tans so when i found xen tan i had to buy it! its a little pricey and the xen tan website says you get a full 5 body applications out of it, i think you could get more depending on how dark/light you want the tan to go. TAN: The cream is very thick and i found only a little amount went a long way! one plus side to this tan is it smells like almonds so instead of walking round smelling like you are covered in fake tan you just smell like you have got a scented cream on. The cream looks very dark when you pump it out but while your spreading it on your skin it goes a much lighter color, if you use fake tan alot you'll know alot of fake tans say you can leave the house while the tan is developing and you cant inless you want to walk around looking like mud has been thrown at you but with this fake tan you can!! They say you can wash the tan of after 3 hours but i would recommend leaving it on for about 5. They say it has an olive undertone instead of brown or orange so you wont end up looking like a wotsit basically, the color is PERFECT. My mums naturally olive skinned and this tan left me with the same skin color as her. The only problem with this fake tan is it does take some time to build the tan up, i found i had to apply the tan about 3/4 times before i was happy with the color ( bare in mind i like my tan very dark) so by the time i had the color i wanted it was only a few days before the tan went patchy and i had to wash it off. They say the tan will last 7 days and if you do the tan lightly and cream and exfoliate your body every few days it will however if you want the tan dark it only lasts about 5 days at most.
I've been using Xen Tan for years. It is my 2nd favourite fake tan on the market (and I have tried a LOT of them!!) Even though another is my true favourite (He-Shi... I have reviewed that one also!), the colour Xen Tan produces is very slightly better - so Xen Tan is a very, very close 2nd! **PRICE** At £25.95 for 236ml - which is meant to give around 6 full body applications - it is rather expensive (one of the reasons I tend to choose He-Shi instead) If you are using as a one-off for an event or holiday, it's worth the money. **PRODUCT** CONSISTENCY - it is very, very dark and thick! It looks like melted chocolate! SMELL - it is supposed to smell like 'cherry and almonds'... yes, it smells like marzipan to me!! It is definitely not scentless, but also not biscuity, like cheaper brands. DRYING TIME - it is supposed to dry instantly, but I find that I don't feel comfortable getting dressed until about 20 minutes later. RUBBING-OFF - The guide colour will rub off onto clothes and bedsheets, but washes out even at just 30 degrees. The actual 'tan' itself only rubs off a little. INSTANT COLOUR - how this looks totally depends on your skin. If your skin is hydrated and exfoliated, and you're using a mitt in good condition, the guide colour should look even enough for you to leave the house. Other times, I have found the guide colour to look a little muddy and dirty - not St Tropez muddy, but not suitable for outdoor wear! Because the colour is olive-toned at first, I would personally mostly use Xen Tan only before bed. **APPLICATION** MITT - I have used both a mitt and plastic gloves - both worked! AMOUNT - I found that I had to use a fair dollop to get even coverage, as it is very thick and dark. GUIDE - when applying, there is some guide colour, but it is more olive coloured than other fake tans and to me, is not as clear. LAYERING - If you want a darker colour, you can apply a thicker coat. STREAKS - I have never had many streaks with Xen Tan, because I'm very careful due to the subtle guide colour! (If you notice a streak within the first hour, try rubbing the streak with either a wet finger or a tiny dab of moisturiser - this usally blends it away!) **COLOUR** This is the one major benefit of Xen Tan. The colour is more natural than any other tan I've tried. As I said, I'm a He-Shi devotee. But He-Shi gives a slightly more golden colour. Xen Tan really does give a slightly olive-toned tan. However, don't be fooled into thinking that if you're Dita-Von-Teese-pale you'll miraculously be proudly flaunting the darkest of glistening olive skin in the morning. Xen Tan honestly isn't all that dark - it's just that when built up, it then gives a darker and more natural colour than other fake tans, which look more and more orange as they layer. The first application will not actually be that dark if you are very pale.... and that is a GOOD thing!! Ultimately, you will never know how a certain brand of fake tan looks on you until you try it, because we all have very different skintones. I could put on Xen Tan every night for two weeks and still not be the same colour as my enviously olive skinned half-Chilean-half-British friend! **LIFESPAN OF TAN** As long as you exfoliate, moisturise, etc, Xen Tan fades without being patchy and lasts for about 3-4 showers/days. I do find it slightly more drying than my favourite tan, He Shi. ~ ~ ~ **PROS** > It really does give a fantastic natural colour > It dries quicker than many other cheap fake tan brands > Feels luxurious and high quality, because it is so dark and thick! > Isn't as muddy as other brands, like St Tropez **CONS** > Pretty expensive if you want to use it regularly > It takes longer than He-Shi to dry > It does have a slight smell > To me, the guide colour isn't right to use as an instant tan **CONCLUSION** I am forever torn between Xen Tan and He-Shi. I don't even bother with other brands any more - these are definitely two of the very best! I choose He-Shi because of the cost and instant drying time. The colour almost matches up to Xen Tan's quality. Ultimately, if I had more time and money, I may use Xen Tan more often. I would definitely highly recommend it!
I LOVE this self-tan! I've been using self-tanner for about 10 years, tried every one out there including the cheap, and the expensive, and most had the same problems, the biscuity smell my skin has after the tan develops, and the way it goes patchy after a few days. Xen Tan comes in a large bottle with a pump dispenser, and the first time I tried it I didn't even scrub beforehand, the lotion is so thick and moisturising that I didn't need to, feels really luxurious when applying, and the smell is beautiful, like almonds and cherries I thought! It goes on really dark so you can see where you're applying it and how dark you'd like to go, it develops in a few hours(best to keep on overnight though, wear dark clothes!)and you could wear it under make-up if you really had to go out as that lingering 'fake tan' smell doesnt develop like it does with EVERY other tan I've tried, even the ones that say 'no smell'. The colour when you wash it off is the same as the colour it was when you applied it, and the more you apply, the darker you are without the orange look most tans give, its an olive, dark brown look you get, not fake at all. I suppose the only downside I could find with Xen Tan is the price. I pay £26.99 from Frasers every few months for a bottle, which is quite expensive but worth it because I dont have to waste money on sunbeds(its that realistic!)and the bottle does me about 5 full body applications, and when the tan fades it fades like a real tan, it just gets lighter, some tans I've tried go patchy around my neck and insides of my arms etc, but this one doesn't. I also tried the Xen Tan Dark Lotion SPRAY, which to be honest is nowhere near as good as the lotion. It smells funny(a bit like cat pee..)and dries far too quickly when applied so more likely to streak, and dried my skin out a bit. Try the lotion and you wont want to use any other fake tan again, it's that good!
I just started using Xen -Tan after using St Tropez and fake bake for a long time but wanted to try something diffrent as iam left with a lovely colour but after a shower theres not much there. So here goes It's a dark lotion that smooths onto skin well, easy to apply I always use latex like gloves it needs to be rubbed in pretty fast but if you are left with streaks dont worry they will disappear after a shower. The smell is a Marzipan type smell that fades into the signature fake tan smell as it develops, but the smell isn't strong in my opinion. I seem to notice a quite reddish tone to the lotion upon application but it isn't noticeable once it's washed off. On the bottle it says that the tan develops in three hours however I found that leaving it on till the next morning gives a deeper result I always tan at night go to bed and shower the next day. Generally on my body, it lasts up to 5 days before fading out. It doesn't look orange or blantantly fake, Application: Apply it on your face with a flat cosmetic sponge - gives a smoother result and I mix with face cream. Don't go OTT and apply a 2nd coat like I did straight after three hours of your first application, Obviously wash your hands straight after, a good thing about this product is that it will wash off your hands you just have to keep at it for a decent 2 mins.
I absoloutley love this product as I am already a fan of st tropez and fake fake so if you love either of those you also will love this product. It is the fake tan all the celebs are using and I can see why. It is just so easy to apply (espeically if you invest in an application mit, which will stop you having orange hands by the end of it), and shows up instantly, which means you will be able to see where you have already applied it and where you havnt so you are less likely to streak, then it gradually gets darker over the next 48 hours. Unlike some fake tans it has got a fantastic fruity smell while others can leave you smelling like a pack of biscuits. This fake tan looks so natural and like most good fake tans it does not streak as long as you apply it properly. Another great advantage is that it drys really fast. Although it is pricey its a price worth paying if you want a beautiful deep glowing tan that will last you all week long.
OMG! I absolutely love this product and could rave about it all day long, it has beautiful olive undertones which bring out an amazing natural but impactful tan! To apply, exfoliate in the shower and dry completely. Then boring I know but moisturise around the hairline, knees, feet, elbows and chin line. Using a mitt (currently giving one away for free on lookfantastic.com) start from your feet and apply the delicious smelling product on yourself. It shows up instantly so is incredibly easy to apply-I have never streaked. Do this at night time, shower in the morning and then enjoy your day as a tanned god or goddess! It might sound like I have shares in Xen now but actually its just a really good product that works well, smells good and lasts for a long enough time for it to be described as really excellent value for money! Do it!
I usually have spray tans as my friend is a mobile tanner, but she was on holiday & I needed tanning for a wedding so I thought I would give Xen Tan a go! Fantastic product!! I purchased the Dark Tanning Lotion & Body Scrub in a package for about £30 incl P&P. The body scrub is to be used before tan application and then during each shower after (excluding 1st shower). It has a lovely refreshing minty smell and leaves skin very soft. The tan lotion is very dark brown when it comes out of the bottle but it gives such a lovely and natural brown tan, no signs on orange!! It smells like cherry bakewells and once dried does have a bit of a "fake" smell but nothing too heavy. Application is very easy - I use latex gloves, but with or without gloves the tan is very easy to apply evenly. I use cotton wool pads to apply to my feet and hands lightly. I also apply to my face which looks great. From my experience, for the best results apply 2 days before you need the tan - I needed it for a wedding on a Saturday, I applied Thursday evening and slept in it, then had a light shower Friday morning. Friday evening I touched up any spots I had missed and by Saturday it was PERFECT! Havent yet to notice any staining on clothing or bedding. Lasts about a week to ten days and I always receive compliments. Worth every penny!!!
I love having a tan - especially in the summer when the legs come out a bit more often - but sunbeds are out of the question now after hearing horror stories about skin cancer, so I have to fake it. I have tried loads of different brands and decided to try Xen Tan after reading about it in a magazine - here's what I thought of it: Firstly, I have to mention the price. It cost me £26.99 for a bottle which contained around five applications. I struggled to part with the cash if I'm honest as that is more than I would usually pay for a fake tan - however after using it I decided that it was worth paying that little bit extra. When it came to applying the tan, I found it very simple to do as it came out of the bottle a khaki colour so that I could see where it had been applied. I still managed to miss a few patches but that's my fault for rushing. The smell was lovely - sweet and similar to Marzipan - but I was pleased that the smell disappeared when the tan was dry ( very fast ) so I wasn't stuck smelling like a battenburg cake for days. The tan dried really quickly and didn't get all over my bed clothes during the night. As instructed, I showerd off the top layer in the morning and rushed to the mirror to check out my tan. The colour of the tan was different to many other brands that I'd tried - it seemed to be more browny/pinky based, rather than orangey. It was a beautiful colour and looked very natural indeed due to the lack of orangeness. I couldn't see any streaky areas - just a couple of white patches that I had missed, but that was my fault. The best thing about this product, is that when the tan fades, it does so gradually without going patchy as most other fake tans do. Also, it lasts a little bit longer than the norm. All in all, I was impressed with this product. It may seem expensive but it is worth paying more for a better quality product. The colour is natural looking and just dark enough for my skin tone (medium). I will certainly be buying this again and would give it a big thumbs up to all you readers.
It is the longest wearing self tan formula, with the highest quality ingredients for deep colour /
