I had no idea that there were so many products in the Xen tan range, in fact it was a totally new brand to be before I received a small tube to try in a beauty box recently.
Now I am older with kids and don't go out so much I hoard these things for special occasions (like false eyelashes!) and this came out to play in time for the Christmas party with work.
Bathed and clean with non hairy legs, I had exfoliated and primed my legs with moisturiser before applying the Xen Tan to my skin. I didn't want it to go patchy over any dry areas so had planned ahead for a smooth start.
Fortunately I had a tanning mitt from a previous tan product too so was able to apply this properly with the minimum of mess thank goodness.
It does go on really dark and a bit scary at first but you have to keep moving the product around to get an even finish before you let it dry on your skin.
As it works instantly, you can see where you are going but it helps to have an assistant on hand for the backs of the legs which are harder to do evenly. I keep a moisturiser at hand to dilute the product on ankles and knees and this seems to work well at getting a less obvious look on the legs!
I would buy this again, it has worked really well although I won't apply it very often but a fake tan is a safe tan after all. I have seen a set with four products in it by Xen Tan on the feel unique website for under £20 although they are mini sizes I think this is the set for me!
I bought this product as a complete self-tan beginner! I was very nervous about self-tanning as I had fears of turning a bright shade of orange for a week- unable to leave the house. I researched and spoke to numerous friends who always wore tan and this was the one that everyone seemed to rave about- and the one that looked the most natural on others. So I went online and bought this- excited about the prospect of having a lovely golden, healthy glow instead of my white, pasty skin.
Once this arrived I jumped straight in the shower to buff and exfoliate and then lathered on moisturiser as explained. I got the mit that I'd purchased to apply the tan and away I went. I was glad that the cream was tinted to allow me to see where I was applying it.
However I very quickly realised that this didn't matter much as once I rubbed in the cream it made no difference to the colour of my skin.
The cream however smelt quite pleasant and didn't take long to apply at all- it was also easy to apply and not sticky. Drying time was also very quick which is a massive bonus for anyone in a rush.
I applied this at night time and couldn't wait to see the effects the next morning. Well I was very disappointed when I woke up and looked in the mirror. You could hardly tell that I'd applied any colour at all and I'd of had more effect applying bronzer all over my body. It certainly wasn't the golden tanned looked I'd hoped for- however as it was my first time I thought I'd give it another chance.
Still I was not overly impressed- I got a slightly darker result after applying more to my skin than the first time however it wasn't the result I'd hoped for at all- and for the money I'd spent I'd really had high expectations as this is not a cheap tan.
I have very light skin so I was hoping for more of a result but this was not the case at all. On the bright side however I did not turn orange or look fake in any way- I also did not smell of dog biscuits like some other tans result in. In conclusion I personally don't think this was the right tan for me - or else I need a darker colour- either way I won't be purchasing again.
Xen-Tan is one of the newer premium tanning lotions on the market, with the Xen Tan dark lotion taking hollywood by storm, it is also proving to be a firm favourite over here in Britain too.
Not being shy of the tanning market myself, I like to jump in and test run the new products on the market to get an idea of which products actually live up to their claims of 'streak free' 'natural colour' and the one we all know to well - 'easy to apply'
Xen Tan deep bronze is a light chocolately brown lotion that smells unusually like chocolate, which makes a welcome change from the usual chemical smell, Its not overbearing, it smells quite strong and fresh when applying but the smell does fade off to just a hint after a few hours. The lotion contains shea butter which is fantastic for rehydrating skin, added vitamin E and anti-oxidants which help brighten the skin and condition whilst giving a good base for the tan to develop on.
Another key factor is that this tanning lotion is designed to have a more olive undertone so you don't end up with an orange tan, and as the lotion has a light colour added you can see where you are applying which should help eliminate those nasty tan lines.
The ingredients are time released which means that the product will develop over a few hours, the base guide gives you instant colour so you could apply this in the morning before you go out.
I myself have fair skin, not sure whether that is a blessing especially when it comes to fake tan. With my fair skin I can achieve a nice bronzed natural looking tan without looking odd or orange tainted. The tan lasts ages, make sure you lightly exfoliate everyday to keep your tan looking fresh and even.
Overall I have to give this product 4 stars out of 5, I love the smell and the product is easy to apply and I enjoy applying this as part of my routine. The Luxe version is the advanced formula which smells like vanilla which is definately a scent I prefer and that is the only reason why this has been awarded the 4 stars.
I found this product on the internet on the Xen Tan website - and oh boy what a discovery this was!
Being a big fake tan user I wanted to find a fake tan that would last over a week without having to be reapplied and also did not look too orange. I paid less than £20.00 (including postage) for quite a large bottle of this tan that lasted me ages.
It comes in a white tube with a easy to use gold screw on lid. All that is needed - like most fake tans - is to apply it all over evenly and leave if on for a few hours to darken - I prefer to leave it on over night.
The results are great, this is the best fake tan I have ever used. It lasted 2 whole weeks before even stating to fade and is cheaper than some of the other big brand names. Another fantastic point it this does not smell of beef or digestive biscuits! I think this is a miracle and I absolutly love it. Give it a go you fake tan lovers!
This is a review by my girlfriend about a fake tan she has used-
I heard of Xen-Tan when reading through a magazine about a year ago, i ordered a Deep Bronze Instant Tan, i thought it sounded really great as it said on the website that it moisturises while giving a great tan instantly. I get a lot of dry skin so when i use other fake tans they ALWAYS go patchy just below my neck and on my arms, this product sounded promising as it was recommended by celebrities and said on the website it smells of chocolate so i thought i would give it a go. i always like to try new fake tanning products that come out as i am very pale naturally and wanted a safe alternative to sunbeds!
i ordered my Xen-Tan instant tan in Deep Bronze
i opened it up as soon as it came through the post and it was true- it did smell of chocolate!.. though once i had put it on the smell of chocolate did soon disappear and i was left with the burnt wood smell you get with every other fake tan which was disappointing and i had comments on the smell of fake tan from friends at work!
as i was applying the tan to my skin... it said to use my hands.. it looked like mud or watery clay which would still leave almost black coloured slight lines on my legs and my stomach just looked like i had covered it in mud! i hoped that the colour would come more olive/tan colour over time, but by the end of the day it was still looking like patchy mud on me, although for the first day of application my arms looked great untill the colour came off under my neck and mid arms! my feet looked terrible and patchy!
~overall view on the Xen-Tan~
I think that the fact it says on the label and the website that Xen-Tan is moisturising is not true, it made my skin feel dry and the way it turned out on the most revealing parts of me (arms and neck) were shockingly dry and peeling, my mum even commented that i looked as though i had a skin condition where it was discoloured, flaky and patchy! the smell at first is really nice, until it disappointingly drifts into the terrible smell of every other fake tan- burnt wood or woodstain! - not attractive! you can order for around £20 on the website but it is definately not worth the money!
When I bought this product I wasnt sure whether to go for the dark version or this one: deep bronze. The main differences between the two, having used them both as that this one is uitable to use in the mornings when you get out of the shower and are on your way to work as its instantly absorbed. The colour is a but more subtle then that of the dark lotion but its a really nice colour. Im very very pale and the dark one isnt to dark for me its just down to preferance.
The lotion itself smells of chocolate (the dark lotion smells of cherry chocolate) and is a lot thinner then the dark lotion. It has a hint of colour so you know where you have put it and the tan starts developing instantly. It costs aboyt the same as the dark lotion £25 but you can get it cheaper on the internet.
It is the longest wearing self tan formula, with the highest quality ingredients for deep colour /
