Ray-Ban 3025 Aviator
by lucylodge
I had been after a pair of RayBan aviators for a while when they went into the sale in Vision Express. I didn't know which style to choose are there are so many different designs and styles, varying in lense and also frame colour. I decided to go for the mirrored silver lens style aviators because I like the idea that they totally hide ... your face and eyes which is what I like in sunglasses as I wear them mostly for fashion rather than practical reasons.
Like most good brands of sunglasses, these sunglasses have full UV protection and are very dark when you look out of them. I know this sounds like an obvious trait of sunglasses but the mirrored lenses maakes them far darker than normal sunglasses so I would recommend if you are going to buy them online, that you find a shop to try them in first and check to see that lenses are okay. Aviator style sunglasses have very large lenses and therefore cover all of you eye area- no need to worry about your eyes not being fully protected. Although the lenses are large, the sunglasses sit comfortably on your face and don't look too big.
This particular style of sunglasses have very thin legs and frame, so you must be careful not to put any weight on them or drop them as I don't think they will take much breaking. However, on the plus side, they are very light and therefore very easy to wear. Where they sit on your nose, they have comfortable plastic pads that make sure they don't fall or slip down; also very comfortable. The legs are coated in plastic, therefore ensuring that where they rest on your ears, they are comfortable and don't irritate.
Ray Ban aviators come in a leather case, and a small cloth to keep your sunglasses clean. Although, the case does offer some protection, you must still be careful when placing them in a handbag as the case is by no means hard and would not stop them from bending or breaking.
Ray Ban aviators tend to RRP from £135-£150. I got mine in the sale for £95, a good bargain I think. However, I still regard this as expensive for a pair of sunglasses and so I am extra careful not to scratch, lose or break them. They are very good quality and I will keep them for many years so although they are expensive initially, I feel that in the long run they are a very good investment. Read the complete review |

Ray-Ban 3025 Aviator
by 2012Saver
I had wanted to buy myself a pair of designer sunglasses for quite some time when I decided that at the start of summer 2012 that I would make the big purchase as I had a few holidays planned and felt I would get my wear out of them! I chose a pair of Ray Ban aviators as they are fashionable at the minute with many celebrities owning a ... pair and I felt the style of the glasses suited my face shape.
I began my search for the perfect pair of Ray Bans by visiting their official website, www.ray-ban.com/uk. Here I was absolutely overwhelmed by the array of colours that the 3025 aviators are available in. These sunglasses are available in various lens and frame colours. From looking at the website I could not make my mind up about which colour I wanted and knew that I had to see the sunglasses in real life before making my purchase.
I visit my local House of Fraser store where they stocked a smaller range of the Ray Bans. They only had a few of the different colour combinations in stock, which I actually found made it easier to make a choice. I chose a pair with a gold frame and brown lenses, which I felt suited my skin tone and colouring the best. The great thing about the glasses being available in so many colour combinations is that there is a colour to suit all.
As with most high quality sunglasses sold in the UK, these glasses have full UV protection. The lenses in these glasses are large enough to cover the whole eye area, meaning that they protect your full eye and the delicate skin around it from sun damage. When you put these sunglasses on, what is initially noticeable is how clear and crisps the view is through them. They protect my eyes well and I do not need to squint or shade my eyes even in very bright sunlight.
These sunglasses have a thin metal frame and legs. The frame and legs are quite delicate as the metal is thin. The advantage of this is that when you put them on, they are really lightweight and comfortable. The pads which sit at the bridge of your nose are made of clear plastic. Initially when wearing these sunglasses I found that they slipped down my nose quite easily and constantly needed pushed up. After a while I realised that the nose pads can be adjusted easily by bending, meaning that the sunglasses fit your face better and won't slide down. The end of the legs of these sunglasses is also fitted with plastic protectors. These are thin and lightweight enough to still be comfortable behind your ears.
When you buy a pair of Ray Bans they come in a leather case which is shaped for the sunglasses to fit inside perfectly. I was given the choice of a brown case or a black case and chose the brown. The case has the Ray Ban logo on it and it also comes with a micro fibre cloth to keep your lenses clean.
The RRP of these sunglasses in £135 and this is what I paid for them in House of Fraser. If you shop around online, they can be bought for cheaper, but when I saw them in the shop I fell in love and had to have them there and then! These are expensive for sunglasses, but I plan to look after mine well and have them for years to come, and I definitely think they are an investment piece and will stop me from wasting money on cheaper pairs!
Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review useful. Read the complete review |

Oakley Fives
by chrisheels
Over the years I have been through a range of sunglasses, mostly ending up in loosing them or sitting on them. I used to think that because of this designer names were not the way to go. After trying some out and discovering that due to the price I am far more careful with these and finding the quality of Oakley lenses makes such a big ... difference, I don't think I'll be going back to the cheap thai/egyptian and other knock offs I have had before.
-----The style---
I like the oakley style. They are designed to look sporty and I think that the 'fives' achieve this. The aren't going to look like trendy aviators or raybans if you like to hang around the trendy bits of london with brightly coloured oversized glasses that match your skinny jeans, but I think they go for the surf or travel type of market anyway.
------The glasses------
The glasses are very much 'Oakley' looking and in plain black have a silver Oakley symbol on the side of the arms (is that the right word for the bits that go over your ears....I'm using it). The arms are straight with no curve to hook over the ears, which means they need to be a good fit but soreness from rubbing is avoided.
The lenses are slightly squared which gives the glasses their name. I like the look and fin they sit better than the other pair of Oakleys I own which are rounded.
I have the 'grey smoke' lenses. I can't recommend the quality of oakleys lenses enough. Try a pair in a shop and see the difference for yourself.
(also available in a wide range of tinted lenses and frames - check the oakley website for details)
-----Quality and manufacture------
The glasses are made from high density plastic which is well formed and the plastic joints work far better than the cheap knock off versions I have had before. You can;t quite swing them open like the terminator in the movies, but they openand fold away easily.
The shape is well made to fit my head, although this will vary on head shape
------Price----
Oakleys may seem expensive. The 'Fives' are currently on Amazon for £93.45 plus shippping which in my opinion is a bit much. I got mine from sunglassesshop.co.uk for £68 minus a 10% welcome discount, making them about £57...which is really very reasonable. You can pay more or less depending on which colour options you go for and if you want polarised lenses. I have dark grey non-polarised lenses which I like and have found suitable for the beach or for snowboarding in the mountains (well....bars between snowboarding as they would fall off). For me over £100 for polarisation of the lenses isn't worth it.
-----Summary-----
In summary, Oakley fives are pricey but worth the expeniture. Read the complete review |
