      Gucci sunglasses

I have a number of pairs of different sunglasses for different times, playing sports, day to day, prescription glasses etc but these are definitely my posing sunglasses. I think sunglasses are a cheaper way of purchasing something designer without having to pay top designer prices for a name and a look. Gucci are a very high fashion brand and when it comes to their sunglasses they have an extensive range of designer frames and looks.

I paid £185 for these frames about 3 years ago to take on holiday with me. I was right before my first child was born so I could justify the expense back then although in terms of designer frames this is an ok price if a bit on the high end when it comes to comparable other brands.

These frames are made of plastic but are quite tough and in three years of being pulled by little kids, sat on and pushed onto the top of my head when I am not wearing them they are still in shape and look good. These frames are black and they have a grey gradient lens to them. I think this makes them very movie star-ish and quite exclusive and stylish. The frames are quite large as well and definitely cover the eye area and sit just above my eyebrows as well. This is great when it is quite sunny as you get complete coverage over your eyes.

Although the frames are plastic they sit quite well on the bridge of my nose as they have little bits of plastic on each side of the eye frames to hold them in place. I have other sunglasses that are plastic too and these always seem to fall off but these stay on well. On the back of the sunglasses the frames are quite hooked so they really cling onto the back of the ear and don't fall off when you bend forward and you do not need to keep pushing them up on the bridge of your nose which is nice.

On the side of the sunglasses where the arms meet the lenses there is a little gold Gucci motif which indicates that these are Gucci glasses and gives them a bit of bling. This makes a bit of a feature of the glasses and I like the look of this. The lenses offer you 100% UVA & UVB protection so as well as looking good they also protect your eyes. All in all a fancy pair of sunglasses that I enjoy wearing.

~Get that Gucci rush this summer!~
      ****************************

As a sunglasses fan I feel that my Gucci GG Sunglasses 2983 are a nice addition to my collection of sunglasses for all occasions. With Gucci being known as a high end product range that also often carries a hefty price tag to match, I know that if I were considering a future sunglasses purchase it would be good to be able to read a product review or two. Which is why I suggested these sunglasses as a potential review subject for Dooyoo. Whilst many may feel that the Gucci name alone should be more than enough to turn a few heads and make for a good reason to buy, I feel that name alone isn't enough to justify a purchase unless the quality is good. Having owned and worn these sunglasses for around 2 years now I like to think that in this case the brand is backed up by a degree of quality, meaning that when I am out and about on a warm summers day my Gucci 2983 sunglasses won't let me down.

      ~Durability~
      **********

As far as durability goes I feel these sunglasses are well made, being strong and hard wearing in use, which I feel is just as important as them being stylish. I have had no serious issues with either the lenses or the frames since I have had these sunglasses in use, although I do recall that one of the frame arms had to be tightened slightly just after I bought these. Happily all that was required was a quick turn of the small screw in fixings at one side with a super tiny screwdriver in order to ensure that the sunglasses were in tip top shape. Since then I have not had to carry out any further maintenance requirements of any note and have simply used the polishing cloth that came with the glasses to keep them dust and smear free, both before and after wear.

      ~Colour options~
      *************

Whilst this style comes in a range of colour options from the deep dark black colourway shown here upwards to slightly lighter frame colours, I opted for a very smart looking tortoise shell mix in a shade Gucci call dark havana. I feel that the blend of colours used to make these sunglasses makes for a good mix as they can be mixed and matched with a good number of outfits in a wide range of colours and still look great. The dark havana mix that the frames of my sunglasses came in uses a variety of lovely deep chocolate shades which melt in to a variety of honeyed tones, giving a very stylish finish. The slightly glossy finish of the frames is easy to keep clean and fresh looking and so far I haven't noticed any difference to the finish even with repeated wear, which I have been pleased about. The gold trim details remain fresh and bright with no fading that I can see.

      ~Gucci style~
      **********

I feel that these sunglasses exude class as the shape of the frames is not overly large and attention seeking, yet still manages to stand out. When these are worn I find they stand slightly away from the face and sit neatly across the bridge of your nose, so that they offer a good deal of protection from bright sunlight whilst still allowing the wearer to feel that their eyes and face can be fully seen. The side arms of the sunglasses are no more than 1 cm wide at their widest point, which means that they do block out some but not all sunlight that comes from the side when I am wearing them. I feel that these are a good choice for many weather conditions as whilst they do look relatively dark head on, once you have them on the lenses are very clear and easy to look through with a very nice crisp clean tone to them.

The sides of these sunglasses have a very smart buckle type design to them that is made from a gold toned metal. Whilst the buckles are there for effect only I feel they do look very stylish as they really set off the look of the frames. The Gucci brand name sits at each side of the frame arms on the gold metal sections and is small and subtle enough not to shout Gucci too loudly. The frame arms are hinged at the point after the buckle where they return to the same material as the main body of the sunglasses and I feel that they work well, allowing me to open and close the frame arms as and when needed. The materials used to make up the frames seem to be of a good quality as they have performed well over time and have not degraded in any way.

      ~The lenses~
      **********

As I opted for the dark havana frames the lenses that are fitted to the glasses are in a very complimentary looking light honey brown shade that give everything you look at a warm sepia tone. I feel that the warm yet crisp tone of the lenses is very relaxing and easy to wear, with them being suitable for a variety of conditions from super sunny to slightly dull and overcast. These sunglasses can be worn with ease over the course of a number of hours as they are very easy on the eyes in my opinion. The only slight issue that I have when wearing these for very long periods is that the bridge of the glasses does leave marks on the skin where it rests, which take a little while to go away after you remove the glasses. As this is quite common with many styles of sunglasses I don't feel this is a serious problem that would stop me from wearing them.

      ~Prices~
      ******

When these sunglasses were new the cost ranged from £180 to £200 per pair which is a rather large investment in my opinion, however as they are well made and comfortable to wear I felt that they offered reasonable value for money at the time. When buying more expensive designer branded sunglasses I have found that I tend to take better care of them, so that they do last far longer than the cheaper sunglasses I wore previously. I haven't found any of my designer collection to be in an unwearable state which I feel shows the over all quality has been generally good. Looking at more recent prices online it seems that you can buy these from around £145 upwards to £300 plus, with the lower price representing a good saving in my opinion, although the price you pay does depend on the colour option you buy (as some frame colours seem to cost more than others).

      ~Storage~
      ********

With my sunglasses I also like the fact that these and other designer brands do come with their own hard cases which makes for safer storage when the sunglasses are not in use in my opinion. The case that came with these is neat and compact with a smooth black leather look finish to the outside and a soft velour material on the inside that helps prevent scratches to the frame and lenses. A simple gold toned Gucci logo completes the look of the case. You also get a simple Gucci branded polishing cloth with the sunglasses that can be placed in the case on top of them to further aid protection from scratches. I have found that the cloth works well enough when I use it to clean the glasses with before and after wear as it has a soft and smooth texture.

      ~Product rating~
      *************

My rating for these sunglasses is 4 stars as I feel they are have nice clear lenses and strong stylish yet durable frames which work well. The glasses have a neat and easy to wear oval shaped frame that has a standard lens height, a lens width of 58mm wide, a bridge height of 14mm and a temple length of 120mm. The glasses are made in italy having durable poly-carbonate lenses and an acetate fame. As far as I am aware the lenses offer 100% UV protection when in wear and I find they are crisp and clear to look through.
