~Forget cheap and chic, these are sleek and chic!~
I must admit that I am a sucker for a good pair of designer sunglasses and even though I have quite a number of designs and brands I am often on the look out for a new pair, which is how I came to own a pair of these Moschino heart hinged sunglasses. The actual model number for these sunglasses as written on mine is MO52101 which I feel is important to point out, as there is a slightly different variation of the design used to make this style which has a small central heart shaped cut out that sits in the centre of the lens.
The sunglasses that I own and suggested as a review subject for Dooyoo do not have the heart cut out in the front section and in my opinion having tried on both options prior to purchasing these, I feel that the design shown here is the better of the two as it is less distracting when seen head on. When I first saw these sunglasses in store I was very taken with them as I really liked the simplicity of the design with its striking black frames and silver trims. I recall that there was the option of having these in red as well as black, which also suited the shape of the frames, although I didn't opt for the red frames as I had recently bought a red pair of sunglasses made by another designer. I would say that the bright red colour option is very attractive but perhaps not for the faint hearted.
~Heart to heart~
I feel that these sunglasses are stunningly understated as they have a sleek and chic finish to them which when combined with a simple slightly glossy black frame and matching single wrap around lens, looks very smart indeed against the silver Moschino hearts that have been set at each side. The silver metal heart logos have the Moschino brand name printed on to them at the outer part of the front of each heart making them stand out well. I feel the look of these is highlighted really nicely by the fact that the brand name has been emboldened a little with the use of a simple black inked finish that gives a subtle look at the same time as letting you know that these are made by Moschino.
~The heart shaped hinges~
The silver hearts are a tell tale sign that these are from this design house and really make them stand out well when they are being worn, as the silver metal used catches the light and gives a stylish look to what is a really dark main frame. The back of the heart sections is where the hinges that connect to the arms sit and I feel that this works really quite well, as the metal arm connectors sit nicely in place making opening and closing the frame arms very easy. The connectors are also made from silver metal and so far they have remained in good working order with no tightening up required as yet, although they may need some attention later on. If maintenance of the hinged sections is required I feel it will be easy enough to slot in a super tiny screwdriver bit and tighten everything up as the holding screws look to be easily accessible.
As these sunglasses have a large single wrap around style lens fitted to them they do require some form of back up support from behind, which comes from a single strut support that is built in to the main frame. Whilst you can see this support piece behind the dark lens, I feel it doesn't ever really get in the way of my view when I wear these, nor does it detract from the look of the sunglasses as the single lens simply runs sleekly across the front of the frame. The frame arms are wider at the front (almost 2cms) and taper down towards the base (around 1/2 cm) which I feel works well with this frame shape, as you get a nice amount of protection from side on sunlight on brighter days. This means that on days when wearing these as a driver or passenger in a car with side on sunlight you don't get that annoying on off flashing light feeling when driving through trees or past buildings etc.
~The single lens~
The single lens that has been fitted to these glasses is quite large and easy to look though in my opinion, offering the wearer 100% UV protection. The effect of the super dark lens colour works well as it is a very good match for the frame colour, giving a very mysterious look to these frames. I feel that these glasses work best on very sunny or bright days as they do hug the face rather closely, giving an enclosed feel that suits the frame shape completely. The clarity of the single lens is very good with everything appearing crisp and clean, with a deep dark grey black tint. If wearing these on days when it becomes over cast they may be a little too dark for some situations, although they do still give you a clear view when worn outside. If wearing these inside a shop or building even on a very bright day I have some times found that I needed to remove them, as they do cast a deep shade when worn under shop lighting.
~Caring for the sunglasses~
As far as maintaining the frames and single lens in these sunglasses goes, I feel there has been very little that I have needed to do other than clean them from time to time. I find that these glasses are very easy to clean and maintain as they have a single lens that covers the whole of the front of the frame, which I can easily wipe over with a soft polishing cloth to give these a super glossy streak free look. I find that all of the frame can be cleaned using the same soft cloth if wanted, without causing any scratching or damage to the glossy black material Moschino have used to make the sunglasses. A simple polish ensures that these sunglasses come up looking like they were when new and I find that a quick wipe over these really takes no time at all. I have found that as long as I store the glasses away with care after use they don't tend to scratch over at all and so far the frame and lens have remained looking as they were when new.
~Price and product rating~
My rating for these sunglasses is 4 stars, as I have found them easy to wear and look after as well as being really very smart and comfortable to wear. I like the subtle design features that work well with the frame shape and have had no issues with the quality of the material used to make the sunglasses. The cost of a pair of these when new can be anything from £120 to £150, although I have seen these once or twice for considerably less on sites such Amazon.
I do feel that buying a good quality pair of sunglasses tends to make you take better care of them as they are a much larger investment than cheaper alternatives, although these same high prices for designer brand names can be a reason not to buy in some cases where prices can seem extortionate at times. As I have had no problems with my sunglasses I feel they were a good buy and I would certainly consider another purchase from this brand in future should I spot a pair that I like the look of.
