A lovely treat for sunglasses fans!

The Roberto Cavalli RC 529S (better known as 'Tupliano') sunglasses are a luxury pair of sunglasses, though in a cheaper bracket I'd say than Prada and Chanel sunglasses, and certainly not as well known as Ray-Ban, however the Roberto Cavalli name itself is well known in terms of designer status.

I purchased my Roberto Cavalli RC 529S sunglasses for £140 in Manchester Airport, I fancied a new pair and wanted to treat myself prior to my 30th birthday and prior to a week's break in sunny Lanzarote. I am the type of person who wears sunglasses as soon as there is a break in the clouds, usually March to September, so I knew I'd get my money's worth out of them wherever I was - and why not treat yourself to something you use so often?

I think £140 last June was a good price, as I've seen them in a store in Leeds for £170 since, so I did make a bit of a saving by buying them at the airport. I didn't want to risk buying them abroad as you worry about them being the genuine article, and I wanted to be sure of the UV standard as it's important to protect your eyes against harmful rays.

The glasses are available in black or smokey brown, I went for the black as they have more of a 'Victoria Beckham' look, which I love (very showbiz!). They have the wide bug-eyed look with a smokey but not graduated black lens, and a silver Roberto Cavalli emblem to the side. They look fantastic on and feel great. They also come in a soft velour type pouch - not strong enough for me personally, I bought a hard case, I know how clumsy I am, and I didn't want them to get scratched in my handbag, the thin velour draw string didn't seem safe enough for me.

The build quality is excellent, the glasses are sturdy and particularly the hinges which can feel shoddy in cheaper glasses, in the Roberto Cavalli RC 529S feel well made and strong. The UV200 rating also is reasurring, and the glasses genuinely do cover enough of the eye area to mean you don't need to squint in bright conditions (of course you should never look at the sun, even in the best glasses). But these also cover the delicate skin around the eyes, protecting them against damage and wrinkles.

Overall I do highly recommend the Roberto Cavalli RC 529S for anyone wanting a pair of good quality, fashionable sunglasses which don't carry quite as high a price tag as a slightly better known designer brand. Overall I do love these glasses, I have them on a lot, and always get comments on how nice they are without being ridiculously ostentatious or a pair which everyone seems to own. They're a nice mid place. I do recommend them with a 4 / 5 (the lack of a decent case loses a point) and I am sure I will own these for some time yet.
