A stylish way to freshen breath

I first came across Altoids while on holiday and was in a drug store looking for some type of mint or chewing gum for my coffee breath! That's where I discovered Altoids.

Altoids were originally made in the UK by a company called Smith and Company, and were originally marketed as a stomach calmative! They moved production to the US in 2005 where they are widely available. I've only found them once in the UK, online at Victoria Health.

They are available in a great range of flavours anything from Peppermint, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Cinnamon (my favourite - they are really hot) and as I'm reviewing here, Liquorice.

The mints themselves come packaged in a really cute retro tin, about 9x6cm, so they are a really handy size to carry in a bag or pocket. The tin is a bit of a phenomenon, as you may find if you do a bit of snooping online, that people collect them and have all sorts of strange uses for the tins once they are finished with the mints.

The mints themselves are about the size and appearance of a regualr paracetamol tablet, but a little bit rough in texture. Once you open the tin you will find that the mints are wrapped (not individually) in a type of tissue paper with the Altoid logo and some company history and information.

The mints are really, really strong (not unlike extra strong mints) but with a delicious liquorice taste, bittersweet, aromatic and quite unusual, but if you like black liquorice then you will like these particular Altoids.

I find that I prefer these to freshen my breath after a meal or coffee to anyother type of mint or gum. They are stylish to carry in your bag and do the job well. People always ask me if they can try one!
