Butterkist toffee popcorn
Last night whilst at our local small Tesco store, l really fancied some popcorn to eat whilst watching a film. All l could find was a bag of Butterkist toffee popcorn priced at £1.50, which seemed slightly more expensive than l would have liked to pay, but it was the only popcorn available so l bought it anyway .
I love good popcorn. I have to confess for me personally it has to be sweet at the very least, but toffee is even better! I cant stand salted popcorn. I'm sure many people will disagree, and maybe it was the fact l was bought up on sweet popcorn, but l cannot cope with the taste of salty popcorn, to me it doesn't make sense to eat salted. So my obvious choice was to buy toffee popcorn, having said that it was the only choice available to me at this time.
Butterkist is one of the most famous companies l know of that sell popcorn, l have been eating it for years (although not on a regular basis). I'm sure you would recognise the big bright red foil bag, with its big bold logo - yellow and red heart, with the big bold letters Butterkist written accross. Apparently Tangerine Confectionary is the manufacturer of butterkist popcorn. They also manufature many other confectionary items. Butterkist sell a range of different flavoured popcorn, some are microwaveable others are bagged like the bag l bought.
They offer sweet, salted and classic toffee, they also have an organic option.
This particular bag is a 200g bag of toffee popcorn, the beauty of this bag of popcorn, is its ready to eat, so there's no fussing with preparation, such as microwaving. There are 415 calories in just half a bag and 10.0g of fat, shocking amounts of naughtiness, but not really all that surprising considering 80% of the ingredients is toffee. Toffee popcorn is a treat. So should be eaten in moderation, unless you wish to pile on the pounds. Unfortunately its difficult to eat this treat in moderation, so l suggest sharing these treats with a friend or alternatively you can keep these wrapped up in an air tight container and store for a little longer.
I was actually quite surprised by how few ingredients there are in this product, but l suppose all it needs is ingredients to make the toffee.
This treat contains milk, soya and sulphites, it may also contain nut traces, important information for those with allergies or sensitivities to certain foods.
Now to the most important part of this review, the taste....
The taste of the product is buttery and you can taste the glucose syrup, it tastes utterly delicious. The toffee delicately layers the pop corn, with a good coating, which you can both see and taste, and the toffee tastes really nice. The popcorn is delicately crunchy but not so crunchy it really hurts your teeth.
Each popcorn is surprisingly round in appearance, and when you open the bag they smell delicious, l suppose its probably the buttery sugary toffee you can smell.
What is good about these bags is that you don't get so many bits in the bottom of the bag and unpopped kernels, as this always really annoys me.
This popcorn can be rather sticky and a little bit greasy on the fingers, but not so bad it would ever stop me eating it. It is a really yummy treat, the only downside is the calories and the fact that eating too many can be sickly sweet and make you feel rather sick. For me the sweeter the better, but l can probably imagine for a few people this popcorn may be a little too sweet, but l think if you like toffee, and you like popcorn, l think you'd like Butterkist toffee popcorn.
These bags are great to share, and l think they are just perfect for eating whilst watching a film at home, or at the cinema. Imagine the scene, a nice bottle of wine, a good film and curling up on the sofa with a bag of popcorn, sounds good to me.
Would l buy this popcorn again? Of course, although its not something l would eat on a regular basis, but as an occasional treat they are really tasty and an enjoyable treat.
Summary: This treat may possibly be too good to share!
