Advantages: Natural colours and flavours
Disadvantages: More fruit flavour required
I have been trying to loose a little weight recently as I have my birthday approaching so wont to be able to purchase a nice dress to go out in. The only problem is that I have quite a sweet tooth and normally indulge in chocolate most days but have been trying to cut this out all together. Occasionally my cravings for sugar get the better of me and I have to treat myself, today's treat was a packet of the fruit-tella crunchies. They are quite a small packet of fruit flavoured chews which contains just 6 sweets so I considered them a way of tackling my cravings without being too indulgent.
I picked up a packet of the crunchies for 30p in my local asda store which I thought was reasonable value although they are quite a small pack weighing just 23g. As stated each pack contains 6 sweets all of which are a different flavour - cherry, strawberry, apple, orange, lemon and raspberry.
The packet is rectangular and is brightly coloured in block stripes to represent the colour of each flavoured sweet, eg green for apple. It states on the wrapper that the chews contain natural colours and flavourings. There is very limited information on the wrapper as the pack is so small so there is ingredients listings but no nutritional information.
Each sweet is rectangular in shape and has a coloured sugar coating making them look very similar to large pieces of chewing gum. Each sweet is coloured to represent the flavour but inside they are all white.
The outside of the sweets are crunchie but the inside is chewy which gives a nice contrast in texture but they are no over chewy and do not stick to your teeth which is certainly a good thing. The flavours do taste like the fruits they are meant to but most are not as strong tasting as I expected them to be or would have liked. The apple flavour was my favourite as this one is quite tangy but the lemon which I expected to be quite refreshing just seemed too sweet and not zesty enough. These are pleasant sweets and the small packet makes them a nice little treat either for children or those big kids out there who just want to indulge in something sweet without going all out on a large pack of sweets. I would purchase these again as they are different and the contrast between crunchie and chewy is good but think they could be a little more fruity and flavoursome.
