A nice change for those who like jelly/gummy sweets but are looking for something a bit different.

Being both a lover of gummy sweets and of ginger foodstuffs, I was intrigued to come across Gingerbons. These gummy-esque sweets are packed with flavour and pack a punch, making for an unusual, but tasty experience.

The pieces themselves are of a good size, and more than enough to satisfy a small sweet craving. At about two inches, they really are bite-size, and as they are individually wrapped, they could also be packed away for long trips to be eaten at a leisurely pace. In my experience, you won't want more than a few at a time, as they are so flavoursome that this will be enough to satisfy your needs. Likewise, they struck me as a more 'adult' sweet; I wouldn't get them for you kids over their normal sweet preferences.

When you first pop one of these sweets in your mouth, the taste is intriguing. Tasting a bit like a gummy version of gingerbread dough, it was wonderfully tasty for someone like me who loves ginger flavours. These aren't sweets to be chewed, but instead they are long-lasting and should be sucked for the best effect. The result is that after a short period of time a tangy, spicy flavour will emerge out of the ginger, something I had never experienced in a sweet like this and which was really tasty. This spicy flavour lasts for ages, and really packs a punch, so those who aren't fans of spice should probably look elsewhere. For me though, these were a pleasant change from the usual fare.

Impressively, though not strictly good for you, these sweets sport precious few ingredients, and for this they deviate nicely from other jelly/gummy sweets. With simply sugar, ginger, tapioca starch and vegetable oil these are the most 'healthy' sweets I've ever had. Available in a 125 gram bag full of individually wrapped sweets from Waitrose and Ocado.com for £1, these tasty little sweets come highly recommended.
