Haribo Fried Eggs
Disadvantages: Unhealthy, odd texture, tasteless
I saw a couple of reviews for these Haribo Fried Eggs recently and it was like a blast from the past! When I was younger I used to really like these, but as my tastes changed and matured, I began to not enjoy them at all, and haven't had one for a while.
I also haven't seen them around in the shops, although a quick search on the internet shows me I can buy them from various online shops such as Handy Candy, A Quarter Of, or Treasure Island Sweets. Prices start from as little as 99 pence plus postage so if you do want to try some it's not too expensive. You may also occasionally see these sweets in pic n mix sections at cinemas or other stores.
The sweets are made by Haribo and look almost exactly like little fried eggs, hence the name. The base is made a of a white foam like substance which is like the foam bases of Haribo crocodiles. It is quite tasteless and if it does taste of anything it is really only sugar. The texture is quite thick and chewy but slightly sticky at the same time.
On top of this base is a gummy like yellow centre to represent the egg yolk. This is also not very tasty. It has a texture like any gummy sweet.
I think when I was younger I liked these due to the novel shape and the fact that they looked like miniature fried or poached eggs, and they were cute. However the taste and odd mix of textures would stop me eating them now. Plus they are obviously no good for you, being made almost entirely of sugar.
Still, children will like them!
