I love fruity, chewy sweets and regularly buy bags of Haribo sweets when I go to the supermarket, for the last few weeks Haribo sweets have been on a half price offer at Morrisons so I've really gone to town on them. This week however when I arrived in the sweet section I found all Haribo varieties out of stock except for the Funny-Mix which I'd never tried before. At 52p for a 200g bag I decided to give one a go, thankfully I stopped myself from buying 2 bags and also bought some of Morrisons own brand sweets so even if you missed the title I think we all know which way this review is heading!

The Funny-Mix (don't ask me why it has a hyphon, it just does) has no artificial colours, is suitable for vegetarians and a 40g serving contains 139 calories and 0.1g fat. There's a fair amount of sugar in these too at 34.6g carbohydrates of which 17.1g are sugar however they are sweets after all.

In the Funny-Mix there's cola bottles, a starfish shape and strawberries, all look delicious as Haribo sweets usually are and I especially like the ones they produce that are really chewy in texture. I opened the bag of these as soon as I arrived home and dived in. What a huge disappointment these turned out to be. I would hazard a guess that they didn't use gelatin so they could aim these at the vegetarian market, there is after all a little message on the back directed at veggies so clearly that's the aim of these sweets. They just aren't chewy, they are more like firm jelly and not at all like Haribo sweets usually are. I thought it might just be the shape I'd tried and surely Haribo couldn't ruin the cola bottles could they? I've loved cola bottles since I was a kid but sadly yes, Haribo have indeed ruined them and they aren't chewy as they normally would be either. All the shapes have the same problem so for the first time ever I've thrown most of a bag of Haribo sweets in the bin. I'm extremely glad I didn't buy 2 bags of these and that they were half price too so it's less money wasted.

Overall if you like chewy sweets stay away from these and get the Star Mix, these are dull and lack any substance and I'm reluctant to even give them the one star but as I have to it's a one star rating from me. A Haribo disaster.
