Advantages: Great bag, Taste great, Perfect texture, Lovely fruity flavours.
Disadvantages: Maybe a little sugary, but come on they're sweets!
Gold bears are bear shaped sweets from the master sweet maker Haribo. If you don't want to read my entire review let me give you the verdict now: they're great!
Haribo Gold Bears come in a standard bag that is coloured gold, very attractive looking and it will draw kids to the pack in hoards. The gold effect really makes the bag seem special, making it the king of all sweets if you will! On the front you will see the big black font which reads Haribo Gold Bears. You also get the Haribo slogan, "kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of haribo", if you have been eating sweets for any length of time you will no doubt have heard it before.
On the right side there is a big golden bear, the titled Gold Bear, he is holding up one of the Haribo Gold Bears on the packet and wearing a giant bow. To get a peek at the sweets within simply take a peek through the transparent window which is bordered by lots of fruit which makes the sweets seem healthy and work well as an excuse to someone else if you are buying yourself a bag! On the back you have your nutritional information but strangely no mention of the ingredients apart from a stamp mentioning all the various E numbers that they contain, or so I thought as the ingredients are actually on the transparent window in tiny letters so upon first glance I couldn't find them!
Once you have opened the bag you will be hit with a pleasant sweet aroma that reminds you of a sweet shop, the Gold Bears smell is really great! The sweets themselves are small and vaguely bear shaped with little arms and legs and if you look closely you will see they have little mouths and textured tummies which I think is supposed to be a fur effect!
Gold Bears come in all different colours red, yellow, green, orange and my favourite the white gold Bear. Once you pop a Gold Bear into your mouth you will delight in its chewy gummi-ness, the texture is perfect having just the right amount of chew to them without disintegrating completely. The fruit flavours are good but all the bears taste practically the same to me, my favourite is the white gold bear, I couldn't tell you what flavour he was but he is slightly tangier than the others! One thing you have to watch out for is that Gold Bears disappear very quickly, I have quite easily munched my way through the bag, for reviewing purposes obviously, I know I'm fooling nobody! They're really more-ish and taste great.
Per 100 grams Haribo Gold Bears have 321kcal of energy, 7 grams of protein, 72grams of carbohydrate which is probably all sugar but 0 grams of fat. Not as bad as I was expecting but the sugar content is exceptional, the bag is 150 grams so I've probably had around 100 grams of sugar in the past 10 minutes! I may not get to sleep tonight!
Price & Conclusion
Haribo Gold Bears are a really great treat and are priced reasonably, a pack will cost you around £1 at most supermarkets. Keep an eye out for other Haribo treats are they are all excellent, you will find delights such as Cola bottles, Stawbs, Tangfastics (another one of my favourites!) and many others. I haven't met a person that will refuse a Gold Bear when offered, so I guess the saying "Kids and grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo" is right! These are one of my favourite sweets ever and if you ever see them I urge you to give them a try, you won't regret it and if you're feeling tired they will give you a bit of a sugar boost! 5/5
