Haribo Kiddies Super Mix
Advantages: Taste okay
Disadvantages: Not as good as other Haribo sweets; nothing new
Just bought this as a treat to my son for doing well in his school report. He seems to have enjoyed them, but I can't say they're anything special. To me, it just seems like another random mix of Haribo sweets geared to make kids want to buy them because they're 'for kiddies', hence the title.
For around £1, you get a 200g bag of sweets, which isn't too bad considering the price of some sweets. Inside, though, I have to say I was alittle bit disappointed with the selection. There are some sweets which I think of as the poor man's jelly babies. They're like small versions of the popular sweet, only less enjoyable. There are also some foam sweets, but again, not of the same calibre as the regular Haribo foam sweets. It's almost as if the whole selection is designed to be a bit smaller per sweet, to point out they are for kiddies whereas the other versions are for either older kids or adults.
There are also the old favourite milk bottle sweets as well, but there were only about 3 or 4 in the bag, and the majority were the other two types of sweet. I can't say I was particularly impressed with them on the whole. I suppose the main thing is that my son liked them, and they did taste okay, I suppose. You definitely get a distinct fruit flavour come through with each sweet, and I found that the blackcurrant flavoured sweets had the strongest flavour. This was okay, as this is probably my favourite flavour of sweet anyway.
The sweets are made using fruit concentrate, as per the majority of Haribo sweets, with glucose syrup and sugar and gelatine forming the majority of the ingredients. If you eat the whole bag, then you're gaining nearly 700 calories (!) so it's probably best not to do so all in one go. I expect the bag will be gone in very quick time with the two of us eating them, but we'll save a few for mummy, of course! The sweets also have a high carb content, with around 160g of carbs for the whole bag.
Overall, I wasn't so impressed with this Haribo product. There are definitely nicer ones out there, and it sort of feels like another excuse just to produce different packaging with the same sweets inside the bag. If I were to take it on the basis of there being no other similar Haribo bags of sweets available, then it wouldn't be too bad, but the fact that it's basically another sales gimmick doesn't really impress me, and I'd rather see them try and give us something a bit different, as opposed to the same style of sweets every time.
Summary: Another Haribo bag of mixed sweets - no change there then!
