Just the name Jolly Ranchers brings me back to my childhood years during snack time or Halloween. These little treats are truly a delicious morsel of joy. They come in 5 different flavors: apple, blue raspberry, cherry, watermelon, and grape. I was a big fan of all of the flavors except for apple (they always made me a little nauseous). However, the other flavors are simply scrumptious. Any time you need a quick low calorie snack or treat, I would recommend these. Since they are hard candy, they take some time to finish giving you a long lasting snack. And since each one only has about 23 calories, you can eat a couple and not feel guilty.
As there are many chocolate-lovers like myself out there, I would like to mention that this is one hard candy that even I enjoy eating. (And I rarely like/eat any hard candies.)
Although jolly ranchers are delicious, they can be unhealthy for your teeth. The acidity of this candy does erode tooth enamel, so, be careful not to eat to many at a constant rate. However, as a periodic, sweet, pick-me-up, jolly ranchers are very tasty treats that I would recommend to anyone who has bit of a sweet tooth.
Many years ago, when I was still in school, I remember local shops selling some sweets called Jolly Ranchers and these would come in a tube style like Polo mints for example. I'm not sure what made me think of them recently but I had a look on Ebay and to my delight there they were, and even better a UK seller so I just had to buy some!!
What are Jolly Ranchers? Well, they are hard sweets which were produced by the Jolly Rancher Company that was founded back in 1949 in Colorado. In 1951 the company decided to concentrate on making hard candy and so the Jolly Rancher sweets were born.
There is a range of flavours in the Jolly Rancher sweets and these are: Apple, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Watermelon.
The packagine of the Jolly Rancher sweets is bright blue with the large Jolly Rancher logo across the front in large white capital letters. This is surrounded by bright pictures of the fruits that flavour the sweets. The packet states that they are original flavours and tells you that it is hard candy.

There are several sizes of bags you can buy, a 14oz bag will cost £4.49 plus postage, while a 5lb bag will cost around £12 again plus postage. I have never seen these on sale in the UK since they seemed to just stop selling them all those years ago so I have to rely on Ebay for them. I absolutely adore these sweets, one sweet does last quite a while unless you are a cruncher!! I always keep a bag of them in my bag and quite often will just suck on one at work as I find it stops me eating when I am bored!
Jolly Ranchers are the fruitiest sweets I have ever come across, they are just bursting with flavour and when you open the bag you get such a lovely fruity aroma with all the smells mixed together. My favourite is the Watermelon flavour, closely followed by the Blue Raspberry but unfortunately they do stain your mouth temporarily so its not great to be sitting at work with a bright blue tongue!
Made in Canada for The Hershey Company wwww.jolly-rancher.com which also supply gummy sweets, fruit chews, lollipops, jelly beans and more recently Jolly Rancher flavour candy canes which I found on sale in Boots. The candy canes come in other flavours such as Cinnamon (too nice for words!!), Blueberry, Tutti Frutti, Watermelon, Mixed Berry and Strawberry. Each candy cane is 5.5 inches from the curve of the cane to the bottom and I think this is a good enough size as they are hard and do take quite a while to eat. If you are going to buy some of these, it is important to note that the Blueberry flavour will totally stain your mouth blue and it lasts ages!! The cost of the candy canes was £4.99 for 12 last Christmas, and I am hoping Boots sell them again this year as they are just delicious!
I have also seen lip balms for sale on Ebay, for which you could expect to pay around £2.49 upwards depending on the type you decide to go for. I have tried the blue raspberry one and it is a really good fruity lip balm but I don't use it too often as my mum tells me I just smell like toffees when I have it on! (Is that such a bad thing?!?!) Other products from the Jolly Rancher range include body lotion and nail varnish which again are very fruity smelling, however I have never tried these so I am unable to comment on their quality.
All in all I am a mega Jolly Rancher fan and would recommend them to absolutely everyone! The sweets are very refreshing, fruity and moreish and I think just fantastic. If you haven't tried them I urge you to visit Ebay and give them a go!
Thank you for reading my review :)
