Sweet that will make your tabs laugh

I bought 5 packs of these for a bargain £1 from my local shop, as they sell things off cheap, I thought it was a good price and therefore treated us. My bag has 50p written on it.

The packet is very busy, yellow background, with the Maynards logo and then Sour patch kids written in bright colours. I can also see three kids, an orange, red and green one.

The logo is Sour but sweet and they aren't wrong. As I delve into my packet I find about 10 kids in different colours and they are about 4cm tall and have clearly got sugary coating. The tang hits instantly and are very similar to other sour sweets I have tasted in the past. As my dad would say "they make your tabs laugh", the very sour blast lasts about a minute or so and then you are left with a jelly sweet not dissimilar to a sucked fruit pastile. My husband thinks these are disgusting and so definitely aren't for everyone, but the kids enjoyed them.

At 145 calories a 45g bag, I took my time as that is quite a lot and really enjoyed. The bag also tells me that they are made with natural ingredients and that they are a fruit flavoured jelly with a sour sugar coating. NO surprise the main ingredient is sugar. There is a warning that they may contain wheat.

Its a 4 from me, as its definitely an acquired taste.

A good alternative to other sour sweets

These sweets pretty much live up to their name- they're even a little too sour for some of my friends.

Having first tried this on holiday in America I was so excited when I saw that they were available in this country! I fell in love with the American version of these, along with some of the other Sour Patch sweets so stocked up on a few packs to bring home. Having tried both versions of Sour Patch Kids I have to say I prefer the American version as they're sour but not overpoweringly so. The Maynards version seem to get their sourness from the coarse sugar coating on the outside - which can make them a little too sugary and sour for some.

These are becoming one of my favourite sweets at the moment, especially as they're often on special offer. You can purchase the original American version online, but for a hefty price!

A lovely treat and truly sour.
