      Yummy!

Another one of my confectionery purchases this week included this bag of Sainsbury's Basics Toffees. I was attracted by each sweet being individually wrapped and the small price of 30p a bag.

The bags come in the standard Sainsbury's Basics colours of orange and white and measure 21cm x 13.5cm. The front has the product name in the middle then the bottom third is clear so that the customer can see the toffees in the bag. Each bag contains 200g of individually wrapped toffee sweets.

The first thing I like about these sweets is that each one is wrapped in it's own bit of plastic, which helps to stop them sticking together and it makes them look nice. Each toffee is 2.5cm in diameter and 1cm thick. They are all light brown in colour and each bag seems to contain quite a few for the size of the bag. I am quite a fan of toffee, however I don't eat it too much any more as the last time I had some, it pulled out my filling, so I have to be very careful now. I have had a couple of these sweets now as I was very tempted to try these and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. They have a nice, sweet taste that is very similar to what you would expect from more expensive toffee. They are quite hard and so I find they need to be sucked for a bit before trying to chew them. I find that one sweet can last quite a while if you don't try to chew it straight away. Being individually wrapped, they would be quite good to take for my lunch each day, however I don't think my teeth would cope with all the chewing required!

As the bag isn't the most pleasant to look at, I have transferred mine into a nice jar and it makes them look a lot nicer and a lot more expensive than they really are. If someone had the time and a retail outlet, then some money could be made in buying these bags, repackaging them and then selling them on for a good profit as they taste yummy and look good in a nice jar.

If you are a toffee fan and would like to try something a little cheaper but just as nice then these are worth a try. For the price, I don't think they can be beaten and I will probably buy another bag whenever these ones run out. Being toffee, they aren't too healthy sadly, each sweet contains 4.5g of sugar, 34 calories and 1.1g of fat. Its not the worst I have seen, but I wouldn't recommend eating too many too quickly!

Overall I shall give these 4/5 as they are great tasting toffee, but as they are a sweet they aren't great for you and so I can't give them 5/5.

      Thanks for reading.

A Fantastic Toffee That Is A Great Hit With All The Little Ones In The Family!

I have lots of nieces and nephews and when they come to stay I often end up taking them over to my nearest Sainsburys and allowing them to buy some sweets to share out while they watch a movie in the evenings.

A 200g bag of Sainsburys basics toffees are currently available from 30p from Sainsburys and these are instantly recognisable on the supermarket shelves with their white & orange basics packaging. These are normally located on the bottom shelf where the sweets are displayed and this is ideal for the little hands to find them easier than some of the more expensive products.

These toffees are individually wrapped and are provided in a heat sealed packet and this is fairly easy to rip open. There are lots of toffees in the bag and I am normally sharing a bag of these toffees out for four children and everyone always seems happy with the amount that they get.

The toffees look just like any other toffees and they taste just like the ones that come in a box of Quality Street. The toffee is very hard and chewy and I usually end up sucking mine for quite a few minutes just to make sure that they become lovely and soft before I start chewing them. These are toffees that would definitely be capable of pulling out a tooth or two as they are nice and hard and chewy. My mouth watered a lot when eating one of these toffees and they had a lovely sweet sugary taste to them.

Each ¼ packet of these basics toffees contains 229 calories, 37.5g sugars, 7.4g fat, 7.2g of which saturates & 0.13g of salt so these should be enjoyed in moderation (like everything nice in life!).

Ingredients: Glucose syrup; Sugar; Sweetened Condensed Milk (from Cows' Milk); Palm Oil; Butter (from Cows' Milk); Emulsifier; Soya Lecithin; Salt; Natural Flavouring. Sweetened Condensed Milk contains: Milk (from Cows' Milk), Sugar.

Allergy Advice: Contains Milk & Soya.

These toffees are some of the nicest that I have ever tasted and it is for this reason that I am rating them 5/5. These toffees are a great hit with the family and when I have a few people around I normally just put a few of these in a bowl on the coffee table and they are soon gobbled up, although this normally means that I spend two days finding the ingenious places that the little ones have hidden the wrappers! The price is fantastic and the quality is pretty good too. I would definitely recommend these and I will be purchasing them again.

          Disadvantages

          Lovely toffees!

I have a real sweet tooth and I love the pure sugar hit of toffees! I saw these priced at 30p a bag and thought they had to be worth a try as I'd save a fortune of sweeties if they were nice!

          The Packaging:

White plastic oblong bag with orange and white writing on the front. I'm told they are Sainsbury's 'Basics' Toffees 'Simple recipe, plenty to chew over', there is a scribble of the toffees on there and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there and I'm told they're Vegetarian. on the back of the packet other information includes a full nutritional chart, ingredients and allergy advice is shown and contact details for Sainsbury's are given and the size is stated which is 200g. Cheap looking packet and when you open it to be careful cos it tears ever so easily and you'll end up with toffees all over the place!

          The Toffees:

I counted about 40 in my bag. They are a light brown in colour and peel easily out of their little see through wrappers. They are not that big but wow are these lovely!

Slightly sticky and moist they melt in the mouth. Yes they are sweet but naturally so and that sweetness isn't harsh. They are butttery and creamy with a slight greasiness to them as they melt. They are so moreish and not too hard on the teeth at all but they are chewy. I love these and I cant recommend them highly enough as they are fantastic value for money and fantastic in the taste test! Love them!

          Allergy Advice:

          Contains: Milk, soya.

Nutritional Values Per Quarter Of A Pack:

          Calories: 229
