“ Brand: Supercook / Type: Marshmallow „
I recently used the bag of Supercook mini marshmallows and this is my review.
I got the bag from my local Tesco supermarket but I have also seen them in my local mini market and other supermarkets.
The bag is quite eye catching as it has a bright red part to it which seems to stand out on the shelf when I am browsing in the supermarket though the rest of the colours on the bag are pastel colours. The bag has a clear part so I can see the marshmallows through it and I think they look very small and cute as they are so dainty. I do a lot of baking and this is why I bought the mini marshmallows.
The bag is a good size and is 200g and I paid around £1.10 for this is my Tesco supermarket.
I wanted the marshmallows to make a rocky road dessert as I used to just buy bigger marshmallows and chop them up a bit but when I saw these I thought they would save me the time and work in doing that.
The marshmallows are two different colours but they do not taste different and the different colours are just to make them look pretty I think. I have tasted the marshmallows by themself to and they taste very nice and just the same as other marshmallows.
The taste is very sweet and I can not eat to many of the mini marshmallows as they can be to sweet and start to taste sickly. A small handful is ok for me though and in my desserts and puddings they are great and are just as good as any other type of marshmallow I have bought before except these ones look much cuter as they are such a tiny size.
They have a powder type of coating on the outside but it is not floury and does not make a mess. If they did not have the coating I think they would all be stuck together in the bag!
The rocky road I have made it twice now using the marshmallows and the bag is enough to make the dessert twice so it is not so bad for value. In between times though I need to store the marshmallows in an air tight tub otherwise they just aren't the same and they go a bit hard.
I have used the little mini marshmallows in hot chocolates as a little treat and during the very cold snowy weather this was brilliant and I really enjoyed it. The marshmallows are such a little cute size that they made the hot chocolate look really lovely.
I would suggest giving them a try out as I think they are good value for money and they taste very nice. If you are a baker like I am I would suggest trying these out for your desserts and puddings to as they are as good as any other type of marshmallow I have bought before.
The other day we went to the Tesco to buy cake decorating stuff. I bought different coloured icings, chocolates and mini marshmallows. I decorated ginger bread for my kids. I wanted to look up a recipe with marshmallows but my elder son was asking me to open the marshmallows to taste it. All of us tasted them until they disappeared.
Price and package
As I mentioned before I bought them in Tesco but I think they are available in all supermarkets. I bought a pack of 200 g for 1.09 pounds. They come in a plastic bag which is very colourful and the colours are all pale. There is a rectangular on the wrapper which is transparent and there you can see the marshmallows. On the left side there is a big Dr. Oetker logo then in the middle it is written with blue Mini Marshmallows coloured. In the right bottom corner you find the Super Cook logo.
The marshmallows are pale yellow and pink coloured. I haven't found difference in their taste. They are slightly dusty then softly they melt in your mouth. As they are dusty they don't stick to each other. I wanted to bake them but we ate them before I could find a recipe to use them. They are very light and contain natural ingredients. Their sweet taste is quite unique. I tried them in my cappuccino and they were lovely.
Sugar, Glucose syrup, Water, Maize starch, Gelatine (beef origin), Natural flavourings, Colours: Beetroot red, Curcumin.
The nutritional information are not published on the wrapper. The manufacturer of these lovely marshmallows is Dr. Oetker. For further details you can visit www.oetker.co.uk
I will definitely buy another pack of these marshmallows because I want to try baking a cake with them. There are tips on the wrapper I just wasn't quick enough and my sons discovered them. I'm glad that we ate them because now I'm sure that these marshmallows are of good quality and they really taste great. They are very cute, only 1 cm high. They are great for decorating cakes. It is easy to work with them. Finally I decorated a few gingerbreads with marshmallows. They are among the home baking and cake decorating stuff in Tesco but I recommend them for eating as well.
I got a recipe the other day to make cookies with marshmallows in them, the recipe said I needed mini marshmallows and the only ones in the shop was these Supercook ones. I only needed 3/4 of the pack so am eating the rest of them now because they're yummy.
The cookies came out wicked, when we ate them while they were still warm the marshmallows had gone soft and sticky and that made the cookie taste sooooo good. My mum does a wicked chocolate fridge cake with marshmallows in it and she told me today that she always uses these, they set nice in the fridge and quickly melt when you get one in your mouth.
The marshmallows are very small, if you're eating them on their own you can put 4 or 5 in your mouth and get away with it. The pink and white ones all taste the same, they've got a lovely soft sweetness that has also got a bit of a vanilla flavour. They are a bit dusty on the outside but not too much and it doesn't spoil them like on cheap marshmallows where they go overboard on the dust.
I think these are yummy marshmallows and so cute to look at because they are proper marshmallow shaped only tiny. I never would have thought to eat this brand because they are kept with the baking stuff in Tesco but they're delish!!!
I recently picked up a bag of these as I was looking to decorate a Chocolate cake that I was making but I have to admit that by the time that I went to place them on the top of the cake there weren't many left and I had to scrap the idea. These mini marshmallows are just so cute and Moorish that I couldn't resist them, but I didn't realise that I had eaten so many.
Instead with the few marshmallows that I had left I decided to indulge myself after my baking effort and made the kind of Hot Chocolate drink you only dream of. I piled them on top of the drink with a little whipped cream and what a treat it was. The mini marshmallows melted a little into the chocolate and you needed a spoon to enjoy them, which made the drink more like a desert and a very tasty one too.
Also another use for these marshmallows is as a meringue topping on pies etc if you just place them under your grill.
And they also work very well in chocolate mouse recipes too!
These really are a special treat that you can use to decorate cakes or just to treat yourself but I think there really needs to be more in a packet than the 200g.
Supercook Mini Marshmallows - Yummm!! I really like Supercook because they make loads of things to help you with baking and tons of fantastic ingredients. These marshmallows are just one of their many products that I like to buy.
The marshmallows are about 1cm big, definately mini and plain white . However you can also buy them coloured, these come in yellow or pink and are great for use as decoration for example putting on the top of a cake or biscuit or for dunking in melted chocolate. The white ones are also good for these things but as they are plain I tend to use them inside the things I make.
Some good uses for them are: to make the chocolate rice crispie cakes that I've already written a recipe for on here, or to make a chocolate marshmallow cake which contains mwlted chocolate and melted marshmallows, it's delicous. OPr you could just do something really simple but ever so popular and put them in your cup of hot chocolate, after all they are the perfect size.
They taste great, sweet, and unlike some marshmallows when you chew them they don't stick to your teeth, they have a fabulous light texture. I often eat them on their own rather than using them for baking, I seem to do that with most of the baking ingredients, oops. They're a great substitute for popcorn when watching a film.
So why not give them a go, I'm sure you'll like them especially at about 80p for a 100g packet,
These mini marshmallows are ideal for using when cooking or for decorating a large variety of foods.
A 200g bag of these costs me 89p from morrisons which is realy reasonable i think, these are in the baking isle along with all the cake mixes.
In the winter as a pudding we love muffins with chocolate sauce and melted marshmallows on top but if you use a normal sized marshmallow the chocolate sauce goes hard and starts to burn before the marshmallow has melted, these are small enough to melt as the sauce warms up maknig a lovely treat.
In the summer i like to put these into my icecream sundays and have even added then to my vanilla ice cream as i have made it.
Shops own brands are cheaper and you do seem to get more for your money but they dont taste as strong as these do, each one of these tastes as strong as a large marshmallow.
