I'd never tried these up until last year when my friend introduced me to them. Since then they've changed the packet and the recipe, she no longer likes them and unfortunately I'm still hooked!
They are in Tescos 3 for £1 sweet range, alone they cost about 35p. The packet is rectangular and quite tall, in my opinion is of an excellent size for this price. The front of the packet is mainly light blue and red with a cartoon picture of a brown dog playing with a red ball. There is a small clear window towards the bottom of the packet, allowing you to see the contents inside. Each bag weighs 75g and contains about 10 sweets.
Each pencil is a bright pinky red in colour, quite flat and is filled with white stuff which I can only describe as a sort of solid sherbert but less tangy and fizzy! The pencils are around 5 inches long but less than a centimetre wide. They are very chewy and taste of strawberry, however this is quite a subtle flavour and they are not tangy or fizzy. They have a smooth texture which is easy to eat and melts on your tongue.
4 pencils contain 100 calories, 20g sugar, 0.5g fat (0.3g saturates) and trace of salt. Therefore, a serving contains pretty much the same values as sweets of similar nature. However, they should only be enjoyed as a treat!
I would recommend these to anyone that hasn't tried them and is a fan of sweets. Kids love them however, they are very moreish and you may well find yourself eating more than the recommended serving of 4 pencils!
Summary: Sweet tasting treat
