Any regular readers of my reviews will be aware by now that I have an incredible sweet tooth and regularly buy all manner of snacks and sweeties to cure those cravings!

I usually do my weekly shop at Asda, and enjoy sampling various bags of sweets from their '3 bags for £1' range. As it turned out that I was shopping in my local Tesco supermarket recently though I was dubious about trying their version of some of the sweeties that I have become so fond of over the past couple of years, but I didn't really have any choice seeing as it was all that was on offer.

The range of own-branded sweets was identical in terms of price to the Asda equivalent - 38 pence per 100g bag of sweets, or choose any three bags for £1. Not bad value, really.

One of the three bags from my selection was the 'Teeth and Lips' which are described as being 'Strawberry flavour jelly shapes' on the front of the bag, where there is also a statement informing me that they contain no artificial colours or flavours... this makes a nice change for me personally, considering some of the rubbish that I eat! :-/

Anyway, once I opened the bag I was immediately aware of the strong smell of strawberries coming from the sweets. They did smell quite nice to be fair, but I thought they were very sweet smelling and was worried about them being a bit sickly.

It turned out that this wasn't the case, and I needn't have worried. The little sweets consist of two types - there are red 'jelly' lips which are see-through like a traditional jelly type sweetie such as cola bottles. These are mixed in with the little 'teeth' type sweets which are white and pink in colour and look like little falsers! The teeth are more foamy, similar to a Haribo fried egg or something similar.

The little red lips are quite tasty when eaten on their own, and I find that they taste predominately of strawberry with an undertone of, well, jelly sweets! They are very sweet but not sickly or over-powering and all in all I do find them to be quite delicious.

The little 'teeth' on the other hand were a bit of a disappointment. I found that the texture was very nice and soft and they were nice and chewy, but they tasted of pretty much nothing and this was a huge let down. When they were eaten with the little red lips, I found that I enjoyed all of the sweets. When the teeth were eaten by themselves though, it felt as though I was eating a piece of rubber or something - all I could taste was a bit of a sweetness!

The nutritional information on the reverse of the packaging informs me that the 100g bag of sweets contains 340 calories and 0.1g of fat. I can also see that gelatine is listed in the ingredients list, so these particular sweets would not be suitable for a vegetarian diet.

I probably wouldn't go out of my way too much to buy these sweets again. I have had much nicer ones from the same range as well as from different shops, and I was not all that impressed so will only award them two Dooyoo stars.

Summary: Wouldn't rush to buy these again!!
