IBM 3582 ... external stand-alone option, offering high capacity, performance, and technology designed for the midrange open systems environment. It incorporates the IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) Ultrium 2 tape drive providing up to 35 MB/sec native data transfer rate (70 MB/sec with 2: 1 compression) and 200 GB native (400 GB with 2: 1 compression) tape cartridge capacity. This Ultrium Tape Library 3582 can accommodate one or two Ultrium 2 Tape Drives and comes standard with a one-slot I/O station, and 23 tape cartridge slots to cost effectively handle growing storage requirements, providing a media capacity of up to 4.8 TB (9.6 TB with 2: 1 compression) data storage per unit. Optional second Ultrium tape drives in either LVD Ultra160 SCSI (PN 18P9234), HVD Ultra SCSI (PN 18P9235), or native switched fabric Fiber Channel attachment are available. The 3582 libraries can read and write original LTO Ultrium Data Cartridges at original Ultrium 1 capacities and with improved performance over Ultrium 1 tape drives and connection to a wide spectrum of open system servers. The 3582 Tape Library has two 7-cartridge removable cartridge magazines, a bar code reader, and the patented Multi-Path architecture to partition the library into two logical libraries. The 3582 Ultrium Tape Library is an excellent tape storage solution for customers with existing digital linear tape experience or requiring high-performance reliable automated tape backup.
