IBM System Storage TS3200 Tape Library Model L4U ... performance, and technology for the midrange open systems environment and is an addition to the family of IBM System Storage tape library offerings. The TS3200 Tape Library is an external 4U stand-alone or rack-mountable unit that incorporates up to two Linear Tape-Open (LTO) IBM TotalStorage Ultrium 3 tape drives, which more than doubles tape drive performance over the previous generation IBM LTO Ultrium 2 tape drives. It has a native data transfer rate of up to 80 MB/sec per drive.

By using the IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 400 GB data cartridge, the Ultrium 3 tape drive has the capability of writing twice as much data, up to 400 GB native physical capacity (800 GB with 2: 1 compression) compared to the Ultrium 2 tape drive. The TS3200 Tape Library capacity is up to 44 tape data cartridges, providing a media physical capacity of up to 17.6 TB (35.2 TB with 2: 1 compression) data storage per unit.

The TS3200 Tape Library has four removable cartridge magazines, providing 44 data cartridge slots, one 3-slot I/O station, and one dedicated cleaning cartridge slot. Remote management and a bar code reader are standard in the library, allowing the library to run in sequential or random access mode.
