A great set of kitchen taps
Member Name: jillycat
Advantages: Well designed angles and jets water well
Disadvantages: grime can get stuck in side groove
When we re-modelled our kitchen 18 months ago we got a local firm to fit our kitchen and they had a range of taps to choose from. The one we selected was from the Franke range of taps. The reason for choosing this tap was firstly cosmetic in that we liked the chrome effect that the taps had as they would co-ordinate well with our handles on the cupboard doors. The second reason was as a mixer tap we would find it useful in the kitchen to have one as this allows us to control the water temperature when filling the sink. Thirdly the sleek look of the taps without any major jutting out bits meant it should be easy to clean and that bits of grim wouldn't get lodged in nooks and crannies. The final reason for picking this was that the mixer was on a swivel so we could have it in either the main sink or the half sink for ease of use. Having had a fixed mixer tap in our old kitchen which used to frustrate me because it wouldn't move I was determined to have a tap that moved this time. At the time I didn't pay much attention to the individual cost of the tap but do know it was around the £100 mark.
Fitting the tap is something I can't really comment on as our kitchen fitter did this however he did comment that it was easy to do and there was no problem with the treads on the tap fittings sticking. Since being in place for about 18 months there have been no problems with the taps becoming loose or moving around despite often multiple use during the day.
The chrome effect of the tap still looks good but as with most chrome materials to keep it streak free is a bit difficult and it does need regular cleaning to keep the sparkle to the taps. As we hoped the chrome effect does complement the door handles and the plugs and light switches that we have in the kitchen and I personally think if we had gone for the brushed steel version it would of looked out of place.
Cleaning the taps is actually a little bit harder than I thought it would be as I hadn't realised there is a slight groove in the sides of the taps to say whether it is the hot or cold tap. These groove easily can get a bit grime filled so it is in my experience best to use a sponge to clean them as this seems to get into the groove better than a flat cloth.
I find that the mixer is able to cope well with getting a good blend of hot and cold water and the spout part of the tap gives a nice well angle jet of water to come out of the tap. The angle and degree the spout juts out is good and generally comes into the middle of the sink bowl. With being able to move it around I can angle it to the side of the washing up bowl till the hot water comes through. When the water comes out it is with a nice degree of pressure so I am able to blast bits off the sink or something I am cleaning which is great. The mixer seems to work well is blending the hot and cold water and they are mixed well rather than one side of the jet of water being cold and the other hot.
The taps themselves are nice and easy to turn and with the small bit at the top too push I can at times use my elbow to turn the water one when I have very sticky hands from cooking or baking which I find great as it means less sticky taps to clean.
Overall I am very pleased with the taps they look good are relatively easy to clean. They allow me to have a degree of control as to where I want to angle the water to and it mixes well the hot and cold water. I think the look of these taps is best suited to a contemporary style of kitchen rather than a farmhouse style kitchen due to its sleek minimal lines. It is available on line from places such as the Tap outlet for a discounted price of around £68 rather than the retail price of £123 which I think represents good value a full 5 stars from me.
Summary: A great contemporary style of tap that does very well the job it is designed to do
