My sister was coming to visit and asked if there was anything I wanted out of Holland and Barret (a popular health food chain store in the UK.) To my surprise she bought me a number of goodies, this tea included in the mix.
I don't necessarily believe the claims that this will 'purify' my skin as I get hormonal outbreaks and don't think a bunch of herbs and lemon will solve this ;). That being said this tea is a good pallet cleanser as it's a none too over powering tea. I let my tea steep for about 10 minutes and it effectively tasted like I was drinking hot water ;). It's not an overpowering tea at all and the ingredients are:
NATURAL LEMON FLAVOUR
A 'natural' tea, I suppose, which to me isn't important whatsoever.
This tea isn't worth the pennies paid (I'm not sure of the cost but I assume it's in the £2+ camp) because the flavour is a little lacking. The claims that it purify's your skin can't be backed up and I feel that by having 'Dr Stuart' on the packaging that is somewhat misleading the customer to assume the tea is good for them - and just what the 'doctor' ordered. Well it looks like this Dr Stuart has a Phd and has been crowned the 'Father of modern Herbalism.' No offence is intended here to any herbalists, but it's not my bag, and seeing as you can't scientifically prove herbalism I have even more grounds to doubt the claims made by this tea. I'm Herbal Skeptic.
That being said if this tea tasted magical then I wouldn't be so disappointed with it. Unfortunately I found it lacking in flavour and taste - like I said, drinking a cup of glorified hot water. With a faint lemon tang to it.
The packaging is very nice - and hipster friendly, which is obviously their market so they have it very well covered ;). I like the little tea bag tabs with the finger pointing from the hand and the 'Dr Stuarts' type on it. But is that really worth what you pay? No. Not really.
Once again another product that is over priced and blows a very loud horn all to land flat on it's face on what it's supposed to do; taste good and purify my skin.
The quest for perfect skin always seems to be a loosing battle for me! I'm stressed, partied too much, not been eating the right foods along with so many other reasons I use to try and explain why my skin doesn't look like the girl in the magazine!
Therefore, for the last year if that I have made that extra effort to try and do all the right things, use the right products to hopefully find myself looked fresh faced and busy tailed as I rise out of bed in the morning! So on one trip to Holland & Barrat for my usual green teas I spotted Dr Stuart's Skin Purify Tea. I didn't buy it right away but it lingered in my mind. I looked them up on the net and found some not bad reviews so I thought it can't do any harm for £1.99 (I'm not sure what the retail at elsewhere but this is what I buy them for). This is for 20 teabgs so I find it can last about a week or two week's depending how many your drink a day.
According to the box it contains the following ingredients;
NATURAL LEMON FLAVOUR
All of these apparently wok together to help cleanse and soothe the skin. I also want point out that this is caffeine free tea which for me is even better! As I get tired very a lot and do not like to drink lot's of caffeine, tempting as it is, as my body then starts to crave it (then I end up running to the shop for cans of coke which will not help my quest for the perfect skin!).
For teabags you wonder how exciting the packaging can really get, but I have to say I love this! I love the little drawing of the front of the box and they way the box looks very clean, like you know something healthy is inside! However, my most favorite thing about these tea bags is that they are all individually wrapped! I can hear people wondering why this would be a great feature as who needs individually wrapped teabags!!?? But as when I started drinking these teas I was determined to stick off a normal cup of tea(only one in the morning to perk me up) that I liked to take some with me in my bag if I was going to visit friends or relatives. This meant I stuck to my regime without having to carry around a whole box of teabags. I also found that when started drinking them a lot of people were keen to try them so it was really nice being able to give them one they could keep in a drawer at their desk or take home to try. And I even like the packaging on the individual wrapping! The bag also have string and a little tab on the end for ease of move the bag around your cup and removing it (there is a nice little picture on the tab as well-images on my blog for anone curious).
*Drinking The Teas*
If your are not used to drinking herbals teas...you instantly may dislike the taste of this tea. The mix of ingredients from my experience on their own tend to be quite potent never mind all mixed in together. However, I drink a lot of green tea so I have gotten used to the odd taste. And after a while you soon grow to like the taste and I now find it quite refreshing! However, I cannot stand this tea cold! At all! So be warned.
On the box it suggests using one tea bag for a small mug and two for a large mug. I would say you really don't need this. I tend to use on bag for 2-3 cups. As I find if you leave the bag in the water it is quite strong in taste so I finish that and just top it up with more water. It obviously doesn't taste as strong by the third point but I see it as your drinking water which is really good for you anyway and still adding some of the skin purifying goodness! An added benefit of doing this is the teabags last longer which leads to saving a bit of money, which in my eyes is always good. But this is just my preference.
*Effects on My Skin*
It could just be wishful thinking but I really felt I noticed after a couple of days the effects on my skin. I felt it looked fresher and more even toned. As sometimes although I didn't have full on spots I felt if you ran your hand over my skin it felt quite bumpy, as if the spots were under the surface. Since drinking the teas I noticed that going away. The biggest difference, were the spots around my mouth. Something which I was quite prone to and I know are mainly caused by your diet. So I was really pleased to see these appearing less and less.
I also noticed that where I may have had dry or flaky skin on my face it recovered a lot quicker! I can be quite bad for picking a spot even though I know it's the cardinal skin rule not to, so end up with dry skin after wards, but with the teas it really goes away quickly or doesn't appear at all!
One reason I knew something had really changed in how I seen my skin was the fact that I went to the local shops with no make up on...ok a little mascara and blusher, but this is still a major improvement! As before I felt I had to wear foundation or my face would look awful!
The times I noticed the biggest difference is when I stopped drinking the teas! I mainly had upped the ante on my skin war as I had an approaching work night out which was to be very glam. Once that had been and Xmas hit, I wasn't drinking any skin tea was on normal cups of tea and fizzy juice, some alcohol as well! This is when I seen the wonders of the tea disappear and really appreciate what they had done! My skin completely broke out! I know this is probably due to the other bad thing I was eating a lot of e.g. chocolate, snack food, take aways etc...but even at that I didn't eat a lot more of those things than usual.
So as soon as the Xmas holidays were over I had my new box of tea on my desk! And again within days I could see the difference! So they are now part of my everyday life....or at least at work, still enjoy weekend treats.
I have to admit that I have been using the teas alongside my Liz Earle skincare routine (I have also reviewed this for anyone who would like to read it) so the two may have been working together to help get me looking fresh faced. I really do think it's the teas hydrating my skin and the fact that in drinking them and switching my cups of regular tea to this are just better all round and it's just a plus that they actually do work!
The only downside, which is not the products fault, is sometime life gets in the way. I have found just now that even at very stressful periods my skin is not protected not matter what I'm drinking! But I would dread to think what my skin would look like if I wasn't drinking them!
