“ Brand: Taylors of Harrogate / Type: Tea Bags „
I'm a tea drinker through and through, and I love a good cuppa. I am not fussy about brands and like to taste my way through a selection of the many different varieties of tea available. I signed up as a registered user on the Yorkshire Gold tea drinkers website and they occasionally send me samples and money off coupons for their new products. This Rwandan tea is part of their Season's Pick range which are available during certain times throughout the year, to ensure that the tea is picked at the peak of the growing season. Rwandan Season's Pick from Yorkshire Gold is available from February through to May. these are a limited edition item available in boxes cfontaining 80 tea bags, and costing £2.99.
Product description: "Bright, crisp and lively. Top quality tea picked at the height of its growing season. We'd love you to try our new Rwandan Season's Pick. Now the Assam season's winding down, it's the perfect time to experience Rwandan tea at its very best. Our expert tea buyers love Rwandan tea for it's wonderfully bright character, but this particular tea got them excited. Grown at high altitude in rich volcanic soil, it's uniquely crisp and refreshing - in their words it's like 'turning the lights on in your cup' ".
The tea bags are the ordinary flat square shape, and contain black tea leaves from Rwanda. They say that the high altitude growing conditions are known to produce some of the finest teas in the world. You should expect a bright, brisk tea that has a lively flavour.
Brewing instructions: Allow the tea to brew for 3-5 minutes or according to taste. Season's Pick Rwandan is best served with milk.
I make most of my cuppas in the same way, allowing the tea bag to brew for a few minutes and then adding both milk and sugar to lighten and sweeten the flavour. I find that this tea has a nice rounded flavour to it that is traditional and compares well to most other black teas. Rwandan tea has a strong and full flavour that seems to develop well as it brews and gives a lovely rich taste. It has a bright golden colour to it that is much more visually appealing than the murky brown that you get with an ordinary cup of tea.
Season's Pick Rwandan has a comforting, pleasant taste that is nice and strong and packed full of flavour without the bitter edge that you get with some teas. It is great to know that you are getting the best quality produce as the tea leaves are picked seasonally and I think it is definitely worth the wait! Obviously there are problems with limited availability but there are also Assam and Kenyan varieties available to see you through the rest of the year. I found it interesting to know where the tea is coming from and how it is picked to give the best and freshest results. Not what I would have expected from a British company that proudly calls itself Yorkshire Gold, but an excellent tea all the same!
