Tetley Green Tea with Lemon
Advantages: Lemon makes the green tea more palatable. Price. Fresh. Health benefits.
Disadvantages: Still don't like the taste.
I buy Tetley Green Tea with Lemon generally because my daughter likes it - and on occasion I have tried it to see what it is that she likes so much about it, and I have to say that it just passes me by I'm afraid. I can understand that it is a good alternative to caffeine and sugar laden drinks, and so it does have that going for it, but I have to admit that I'm not generally one that likes what's good for me and I like my sugar and caffeine! However, I have given this drink a fair trial now and this is my verdict.
The tea comes in a nice round cardboard tin with a plastic pull off lid - which does look more sophisticated than the cardboard boxes and also takes up less room in the cupboard. The plastic lid has a good seal on it and so the tea bags are kept fresh between uses - more so I think than when they are kept in a cardboard box. Each tub contains 50 tea bags and the whole tub cost me £1.90 - which equates to just under 4p per tea bag - which I believe is really a very good price (if you like it!).
Making the tea is as with all standard tea bags......tea bag in mug and pour boiling water on the top.....not rocket science. Obviously you leave the tea bag in depending on how strong you want the tea. My daughter who likes it strong will leave it in for about 2 minutes, whereas 30 seconds is more than enough for me. I have to say that, on first impressions, I like the look and the smell of the tea. It smells fresh and very lemony and has a refreshing twang to it that is missing in your average cuppa.
Now, I am generally not a fan of green tea anyway.....any green tea, but I was hoping the addition of the lemons would make it slightly more palatable. And it does. The lemon does make the green tea slightly more palatable......but only just. I find green tea to be quite bitter and strangely enough, considering it's lemons, the lemony taste seems to take away some of the bitterness and add another dimension that means I probably could tolerate it if I was going to go green.
In conclusion, I don't like this drink, probably because I just don't like green tea in general, but the lemon does make it more tolerable and I could drink this under duress!
Summary: Could drink it under duress if I wanted to go green for health benefits.
