Tetley One Cup Teabags
Advantages: Good quality Tetley tea at a more than affordable price.
Disadvantages: Possible sneaky changes to quantity.
Some would call me a 'cheapskate' or a 'tightwad' but I prefer to be known as a 'savvy shopper'. I can often be found frequenting discount stores such as B&M, Home Bargains and the pound shops and that is where I came across these beauties.
Price and Availability
Tetley one cup tea bags can be found in B&M and Home Bargains for 99p and in the pound shops for you've guessed it...£1! A word of warning: Ordinarily you get 88 tea bags per box but I picked the same product up from B&M last week and got home to realise that the packaging stated 72 tea bags and it was still 99p! I felt robbed. I have since purchased an 88 tea bag pack for 99p at Home Bargains so I do wonder if they will slowly start to change them all to 72 packs? (If anyone knows what's happening drop me a comment-It's all I've talked about!). Home Bargains have also started doing a larger pack of 200 tea bags for £2.39 which if they are changing the smaller pack size, the 200 pack will work out cheaper As a point of comparison Tesco currently sell 80 Tetley tea bags for the princely sum of £2.27 so One Cups are still coming out on top even with the changes.
Tetley One Cup tea bags come in a signature 'Tetley Blue' cardboard box with an image of a golden cup of tea on the front. The box is packaged in thin cellophane which protects the box from opening and the contents spilling out. Once the cellophane is removed the box has a lid which opens and closes so you could keep the tea bags in the box but I find it a bit flimsy and it gets squished easy, particularly if like me it is wrestling for space amidst the peppermint and green teas you bought whilst on that healthy eating kick. So I decant my tea bags into a kilner jar. The box states all the obligatory information and contact details and brandishes the 'Tetley' logo several times.
I like my tea strong with a teaspoon of milk. Dark, murky brown is what I'm after and cheap tea bags can't produce that kind of tea no matter how long I leave the tea bag in for. These tea bags produce a strong, rich flavoured tea without any brown bits floating around on top. They are also able to produce a weaker, more milky tea if required. I find they are a great all rounder when you've got people round all wanting a different strength of tea. They are called 'One Cup' as they are designed for making tea in the cup and they do this perfectly but they also fair well in tea pots (one per person) and in flasks. One tea bag successfully makes a nice strong small flask full of tea. The bags are sturdy, we've never had one tear in our house and have been using them for over two years.
Overall you are getting the Tetley quality tea bags at a bargain price. I highly recommend these teas bags as a way of saving money without having to drink something unpalatable. A great product that I hope the discount stores will continue to stock.
