Advantages: A good way to combat my sugar addiction

Disadvantages: Can be more costly than drinking traditional tea

I have recently tried to introduce a few lifestyle changes including the things I eat and drink. I normally drink lots of tea and have a terrible sweet tooth so I have two sugars in my tea. In an attempt to reduce my sugar and caffeine intake I have recently switched to drinking herbal and fruit teas instead and Twinings Camomile and Spearmint has quickly become one of my favourite.

Twinings Camomile and Spearmint come in a box of twenty netted tea bags and contain the following ingredients: Camomile(35%), Spearmint(35%), Blackberry Leaves, Lemongrass and Linden. The tea can be enjoyed by simply adding one tea bag to hot water and leaving for 2-3 minutes depending on how strong you like the flavour. The box also suggests alternative ways to enjoy the drink such as adding honey for extra sweetness, or allowing the drink to cool before adding fresh mint leaves. However, I have never tried these alternatives so I am unable to pass any comment.

I must admit I was sceptical and doubted whether I would find an alternative to everyday tea which I would genuinely enjoy, so this tea came as a pleasant surprise. Upon opening the box and making the tea the smell of spearmint is evident without being overpowering. In terms of taste, the tea is refreshing and although I believe this is attributed to the spearmint which appears the dominant flavour, I do not believe it to be so at the expense of the camomile. Camomile is well known for its relaxing properties which makes this a perfect tea to enjoy throughout the day including before bed. For those who have trouble sleeping you may find a tea with camomile helps. If I had to point out a negative to drinking this tea, it would be to drinking herbal and fruit teas as a whole. It can be quite expensive to drink, I think I paid around £2 for this box of twenty tea bags, although it is possible to pick up some good deals when there are offers on.

I doubt I will be giving up my daily dose of PG tips completely and am not convinced this change will have any profound effect upon my life, however I am enjoying trying alternative teas and look forward to sampling other flavours available.

Summary: A refreshing alternative
