“ Brand: Twinings / Type: Green Tea „
I have been drinking Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea for a number of years. I love the delicate Bergamot flavour of Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea. The instructions recommend that you steep the tea bag for three minutes in water which has boiled and cooled a bit. Each tea bag is strong enough to make two cups of tea. I find that when I drink it I feel the refreshing effects.
Each box containing 20 tea bags used to cost around £1.20 at my local health food shop. I was also able to buy it from my local Tesco's for a similar price.
I have had a problem buying this tea recently, when I went to my local shops and found that they do not sell it anymore. I have tried everywhere with no joy. I had to go all the way to France to buy my last supply of my favorite hot drink, so I bought 20 boxes!
The tea can be ordered from the Twinings website and they will send it direct to my home for a price. The price of this, is much more expensive than at my local shop which sold the tea. I have tried other Twinings Green Tea varieties and I don't really like them as much as Twinings Earl Grey Green Tea. What am I to do?
I have been drinking green tea for years as an aid to weight loss. I have tried all types, Gunpowder Green tea, Pure Green tea and Green tea with various fruit flavours. When my daughter started drinking Earl Grey green tea, I thought I would try it.
When you brew it, you get a pale golden liquid in your tea cup. Earl Grey Green Tea has the characteristic flavour of Bergamot, but is perhaps more delicate than the black variety. The instructions tell you to leave the tea bag in the cup for about three minutes. This is far too long in my opinion producing a rather bitter cup of tea. One and a half minutes seems about right for a refreshing drink that can be taken as it comes or sweetened with a little honey. It is supposed to be full of antioxidants that are very good for you. I can't argue with that.
I can't say that this is my favourite Green Tea, but it is palatable. The only down side is that it has become more and more difficult to get hold of it in the supermarket at a reasonable price.
We used to get it at Tesco's in Dudley for £1.25 for a box of 25 tea bags, but they don't stock it any more. We can occasionally get it from a well known health food shop whose only branch is in the shopping centre at Wolverhampton. How does the Earl Grey green tea drinking population in the rest of the country manage?
I always drink Earl Grey tea at home and so for me it is my normal, every day tea which I much prefer to standard black leaf tea (which I have to put up with at work, it just doesn't cut the mustard when you drink so much Earl Grey!). I also like Green Tea and am aware of the supposed health benefits of the same, so when I saw these Earl Grey Green Tea bags I just had to try them.
I bought a box and took it to work with me so I could try them out during the day (there is no way I would be so radical with my first cup of the day!). I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, there was still the definite flavour of Earl Grey which I like so much but it had, if anything, more depth to it due to the strength of the green tea.
I found that it needed less time to 'brew' and unlike with normal Green Tea I didn't leave the bag in while I was drinking it because it seemed to get too strong when I did. I do like my tea strong but it seemed to sully the flavour a little when I tried it with this blend. I think maybe it just does not need it because the flavour is so ditinct.
I would recommend this tea to anyone who, like me, is an Earl Grey aficianado wanting to feel like you are doing something good towards your health and upping the benefits of your tea drinking. I found this a refreshing and enjoyable blend and will certainly be keeping a box (locked) in my desk drawer!
Character: Twinings have taken the flavour of our famous Earl Grey Tea and blended it with green tea to produce a delicious drink with a subtle bergamot flavour. Use water just after it has boiled and steep the teabag for 1-2 minutes. If the teabag is left for too long it can detract from the smooth and refreshing flavour.
