      Very helpful

A great alternative to normal green tea

We have just bought a whole load of new beverages for the office and I have been sampling the new non-caffeine varieties as a matter of research (someone's got to do it!).

Amongst the usual green tea and fruit teas I found a box of 20 of these Pineapple and Rooibos variety (although its the Pineapple & Grapefruit shown in the picture above I notice - the box is pretty similar though) and curiosity got the better of me.

I do believe that green tea is an acquired taste, it can seem rather bitter, especially if you usually drink your tea milky and with sugar. I have always loved strong tea and can stomach it black if necessary, therefore when I started drinking Green Tea a few years ago I took to the strong flavour quite quickly.

In the last few years there have been a number of these infusions of green tea with fruits and I have liked most of them. I decided to try this one as my usual afternoon break cuppa and I have to say it is one of the nicer varieties I have tried.

I am of the opinion that with these kind of herbal and fruit teas the bag should be left in for a good 10 minutes but then removed before drinking, this gives the tea enough time to sufficiently diffuse which seems necessary, if you only leave it in a minute or so as you would with standard black tea you will probably find the flavour is not defined enough. So I added the hot (not boiling) water and waited ten minutes or so and removed the bag.

The overiding flavour is definitely the pineapple but this doesnt make the flavour too sweet, there is just a tang to it which is unmistakably pineapple. The green tea can still be tasted but not as vividly, this is like a pleasent balance between the strong taste of normal green tea and the fruitiness of a straight fruit tea.

As for the Rooibos, I have tried a simple Rooibos tea recently and to me it just tasted like standard black tea, I couldnt identify this particular flavour in the Pineapple and Rooibos tea but then it might simply be because I am not familiar with it.

This is a great, refreshing flavour of tea and something a little bit different, I would highly recommend it.
