“ Type: Black Tea „
The Russian Caravan contains a blend of tea leaves including Lapsang Souchong. As the tea travelled along the route from China to Russia, some amazing chemical reaction happens between the leaves and the environment and the tea takes on its own distinctive taste that still carries a bit of the smokiness that Lapsang Souchong is famous for but not the overpowering taste. (I am still not sure how the chemical reaction happens but it really is an amazing thing to me!)
Possibly, the campfire smoke from the caravan route contributed to smoking the tea leaves somewhat as they travel.
What I like about the tea is that it is flavoursome enough by itself without having to add sugar or milk. It leaves a refreshing after taste in my mouth. The aftertaste is subtly nutty (the description above is pretty accurate) although I do have trouble identifying the liquor taste. All the black tea leaves that i use to brew my tea do undergo some form of fermentation so possibly I am just used to liquorish black tea that I cannot identify that taste.
I do feel cleansed after drinking this tea. A good afternoon tea with sweet snacks, and for post dinner. I have yet to try this to bake (unlike with earl grey) but possibly, with its distinctive taste, it could become a hit. Russian Caravan cupcakes do sound exotic.
Twinings does provide quality russian caravan tea at a reasonable price although it is quite hard to find in the supermarkets. I am lucky that i work near the Twinings shop so I was able to purchase this easily. It falls into the speciality tea range.
So take time out today and sample a cup of russian caravan tea and imagine crossing the desert on a camel.
This is my favorite tea and I can not longer find it! I love it loose leaf so I can brew it to the strength I like. This tea is bold without being bitter. It takes cream and sweetner and it enhances it rather than weakens it. I highly recommend it if you love tea on the more bold side! This is an amazing tea to start your day with, boost you in the middle of the day or relax with after a long day. Brew and enjoy!
For a few minutes every day, would you like to imagine yourself as a member of the Russian aristocracy? A Tsarina perhaps? Obviously imagining this before the Russian revolution would be a good idea! Well now it possible by sitting back, closing your eyes and sipping this gorgeous tea. How is that possible I hear you ask! Well this tea is called Russian Caravan and is based upon the tea fervour by the old Russian aristocracy. You wouldn't expect them to drink the same tea as the peasants surely! The tea is made from a blend of fine China teas and was traditionally transported into Russia by camel caravans from Asia. I think that explains where it got its name from! The tea itself is delicate and mellow - a perfect tea for relaxing with. Although the flavour is very delicate it is quite distinct and you can tell when you are drinking Russian Caravan! If you are a stranger to tea other than of the Tetley or Tescos own label, then this may be the perfect tea for you to start off with. It is of better quality than your run of the mill brand teas but the flavour is not too strong or too much of a shock. Next time you are at the supermarket be brave, take the plunge and throw a box of this into your trolley!
A fragrant blend of China tea with a light liquor and a subtle nutty character. Black tea, a blend of oriental teas.
