“ Brand: Whittards / Type: Herbal Tea „
I'm not a big fan of traditional tea and had recently been experimenting with Twinings herbal teas when I stumbled into Whittards and came across this product. Its not a herbal tea as such, but more a fruit flavoured drink which contains sugars and tea, but does not have the flavour of traditional tea, thankfully for me.
A 400g tub will cost £6 but there are always offers on, currently buy any 3 tubs for £13. The tubs are quite big and chunky and will last a while.
To drink, you simply add 3 heaped teaspoons to hot water for a delicious hot drink or add to cold water and serve with ice for a refreshing summer drink. One tub using these measurements will give roughly 25 servings.
The taste test. My first impression was this drink was very very sweet, and I have a sweet tooth. It did have delicious apple flavours which are meant to resemble traditional Turkish apple tea, found in Turkey. I've never tried that so can't really compare but it did have an unusual apple taste which was refreshing and would taste lovely in the summer, bit perhaps the sugar made it a little too sweet for me.
It contains Sugar, Citric Acid, Black Tea Extract, Natural Flavouring.
If you want a natural herbal drink I would suggest trying their herbal fruit drinks which contains natural ingredients, no sugar and no caffeine but if you want a sweet kick then this is for you.
I've probably reviewed more types of tea than anyone else here on dooyoo - white tea, black tea, fruit tea, green tea... you name it, I've written about it. However, all of those teas have come in tea-bag form, and this review represents my first excursion into the world of powdered tea.
Described as "A tangy, full flavoured apple tea drink", Wittard's 'Turkish Apple- Instant Tea' can be purchased for £5.99 for the 500g container.

Making the tea is easy - simply add three teaspoons of the apple powder per cup and stir well. It is said that the 500g tub contains twenty-five servings - but this obviously depends on how strong you want your beverage.

It's always nice to see a product with a limited list of ingredients, and this is certainly the case with this tea; Sugar, Citric Acid, Black Tea Extract, and Natural Flavouring

The flavour of the tea is incredibly appley, very tangy, and a lot more flavoursome than any tea which is brewed in tea bag form. If there is a disadvantage to the taste, it would be that fact that it is perhaps too sweet - but that's a problem that can easily be rectified by adding a little less of the tea powder than the recommended two teaspoons.
If you taste the actual tea powder, it tastes a lot like sherbet, and I have to restrain myself from eating it all before it even makes contact with water!
You can drink any of Wittard's instant teas hot or gold, and this Turkish Apple variety makes for a refreshing summery drink on a hot day if you choose not to heat it - that said, I generally prefer the flavour in hot form.

Wittard's Turkish Apple Instant tea is a really delicious, and whilst lacking the subtle flavours of tea bag based tea, it will give you a tangy blast of apple which is really quite delicious - recommended.
This apple tea is made in the Turkish style, but don't be fooled, most Turks don't drink their tea this way. Turkish tea is traditionally a very strong black tea, apparently the Apple tea is really only popular with tourists and the locals don't drink it. THat being said, the Turkish Apple tea is delicious.
It's actually more of a hot juice or other drink than a tea since there are no leaves in the brew. Instead you take several spoonfuls of a sugary, golden looking substance and stir it into boiling water to make your drink. I suspect that in fact this is probably about 98% sugar.
When you add the hot water you do get a strong and immediate apple aroma - more like the clear bottled apple juice smell than actual apples, and a bit sweeter. The taste of the tea is much the same - appley, and very sweet. The tea is served very strong and usually in small tea glasses. Trust me you wouldn't want to drink a full mug of this at full strength - it's so strong when made correctly. The liquid is a deep golden colour but remains translucent. It is definitely a nice treat or small pick me up but not something that you'll probably be wanting to drink all day or every day.
If you are a fruit tea sceptic, try this and you will be so surprised. it is full of flavour, really delicious hot or cold. It is easy to make and dissolves quickly leaving no residue. No tea bags, no lines on your cup. Marvellous. Highly recommended change from the other fruit teas when you are caffeined up in the office all day.
Our original Instant Tea! Turkish Apple is a tangy, full flavoured apple tea drink which can be prepared hot or cold. Have it hot and it tastes exactly the same as Turkish apple tea served in Turkey.
