UPDATED 3. 10. 01. Sorry folks but this is now history. After 3 weeks of almost always getting the engaged tone they have shut up shop. This is what they have said & I leave it to you to make your own minds up!! A Message from The Managing Director. We at www.08002go.com have decided as from Wednesday the 3rd October 2001 to discontinue our service to all our members forthwith. Although we do not have to give any reasons for this conclusion, we believe it only fair to you to let all know why we have come to this decision. We will endeavor, from the list below to go through all the points raised over the last week or so. Q. Are 08002go.com going out of business or going bust. A. No, quite the opposite in fact. From mid day Wednesday the 3rd October 2001 we are suspending our service for approximately one month, in which time we will be returning with a four option service plan and it will be entirely up to you if you wish to continue with us. Q. Will we get our Money back? A. As we have not closed our operation or gone into Liquidation or any other form of closure any member who has subscribed to our twelve month payment plan (and there only a few) will notice in their private mail over the next few days a repayment which will be the precise calculation for unused months. Monthly £9.98 subscribers will receive an automatic refund if they have been overcharged in error for whatever reason. *Please note we will be checking each and every claim to ascertain that persons or companies claim is correct as set against our very accurate logging and tracking system. We have had quite a few bogus claims already, and we will take strong Legal action against any individual or company who knowingly makes a false claim for a money refund. We believe this is no more than attempted theft and is just not fair on all o
ur honest members and us. We are currently going through our Logs at this moment of time to find out any member who has been inadvertently overcharged. Without question they will be refunded so please bear with us as we are checking every account so we don't miss anyone out. This of course is the beauty of our month-by-month system because your contract with us is for one month at a time only so no one can lose out. Q. What if I paid by Standing Order Through my Bank? A. Inform your Bank, immediately, that you wish to cancel your standing order and if you have noticed that your Bank has just paid your subscription for the next month then notify us and we will be only to pleased to refund you direct. Please note we cannot cancel your standing order for you, You Must cancel your standing order at your Bank. Q. What if I have joined just recently? A. If you joined just recently by credit card transaction. Although it may appear that you have paid us, you will in fact find, that no payment has been taken from your credit card and your membership will now be cancelled. If you have sent a cheque to us and have not received your service you will be refunded without question. Q. Can I continue to be a member ready for the re-launch in one month? A. Yes you can, as, we have your details on file. We will not charge your account until you agree the new service charges and conditions when posted, until then you will remain (if you wish) on our file or if you want to be removed from our file database then simply e-mail us and your details will be removed. Q. Your phone number seems permanently busy? A. Yes. This is because a lot more of our members are ringing to enquire on the latest status of our service and we simply do not have enough operators to answer all these calls. Q. Will I be able to use the
same e-mail address after Wednesday the 3rd October? A. There are a few people in the UK. who seem to immediately jump to the O They Have Gone Bust Bandwagon (So they must have ripped us off scenario). It is quite sad really that these creatures seem hell bent on wishing bad news on themselves along with their fellow members by proceeding to write on Forums the biggest load of unintelligent dribble anyone can imagine. Maybe it is because these people have been ripped off (to use their language) by other ISP in the past, but that is not and never has been 08002go.com style. To those people, you know you are not fooling anyone out there. Your fellow members take no notice at all of your bogus so called Webmaster claims and all the nonsense you have been writing over the past weeks. Just look, for example, at the berk who posted on a Forum that you could have our service for £60 a year if you sent in your payment within seven days. Totally untrue. All we can think of these people are sick and need help. Do these sort of idiots think that any one sensible believes their
dribble, or perhaps its just that they never got any toys for Christmas. Who knows or for that matter who even cares. Under no circumstances will any posting headed from the Webmaster, Sales, and Offers Etc be posted by www.08002go.com and should be ignored as they are likely to be bogus. I signed up for this ISP several months ago before it was up and running as I was really fed up with BT’s cavalier attitude towards non BT customers. Yes, I have written an Op on that too. The cost of 08002go is £9.98 per month which is what I paid BT but I now have 24/7 access whereas with BT it was only off peak times. 1 up to 08002go. Secondly, I liked their attitude – it really did seem that they wanted to be THE BEST – great hopes I know but you have to aim high when there is so much competition. They came online whilst I was on holiday so I downloaded the software direct from the website. Unfortunately, I lost my connection half way through the process so I rang the help line and was advised to go to another website – 08002go.net and finish the download from there which I did. Connections were pretty quick, as quick as BT but I have had problems with being cut off after a minute or two. I am currently giving them the benefit of the doubt as my machine is very temperamental at the moment. I think it knows I have ordered its replacement so it’s is feeling ultra sensitive. It is going to good home but it will need a spell in the computer hospital to have a thorough overhaul before my daughter and family start overloading it. Sorry, I am digressing – back to 08002go……….. The one thing that really bugged me was the fact that, at the beginning, they could not accept e-mails from other ISP’s. This was a real nuisance as it meant that I had to use another ISP for people to write to me but if they just clicked on reply they had their message retur
ned. To be fair to 08002go they did say they were working on this problem in the first few weeks but those weeks have turned into a couple of months and the situation appeared to be the same. Yesterday I got fed up and sent them an e-mail asking “how soon was soon " relating to accepting mail from other ISP’s. To be honest, I didn’t expect a reply but this afternoon – less than 24 hours after I sent my mail I received a phone call from Emma at 08002go asking if she could help . We went through my configuration and there were 2 adjustments to make – can’t remember what as I’m not technically minded, but it now works. I sent myself a mail at 08002go from my virgin ISP and received it loud and clear. I think the problem probably occured when the download was interrupted but I don't really know - as Mavis used to say. I suppose I could complain and shout that they should have told their customers it was up and running but equally, I could have queried this some time ago. I think they are doing OK for a new venture and wish them well in the future. Just hope it doesn’t get too popular and slow down too much. UPDATE - 13 July 2001 Well, I'm now using my new computer and, after experiencing quite a problem trying to reconnect to 08002go I finally managed this & it's working fine. No cut offs like there were before and it's really quick. Well done 08002go but may I suggest that you put something on youer home page telling existing customers how to reconnect. I found out buy accident. UPDATE 17 September 2001 Well, I've put off doing this in the hope that 08002go had just hit a bad patch but I'm beginning to think that they will shortly follow many other ISP's and disappear into the ether. I have had numerous problems lately with my e-mails and connections and the latest problem is that I can't log on until after 6p.m. Now th

If you want to find out more about this ISP I suggest you log onto the website - www.08002go.com and read the hundreds of letters in the Forum most of which are complaints. <br>Despite this I intend to hang on & see if they will deliver the service they promised as I really don't want to have change my address yet again.Optimistic ???????? - 14/08/01 Thought I'd better update you all. Just at the moment - well for the last 5 days,to be precise, there are big problems connecting. Masses of messages on their forum but nothing forthcoming from the ISP themselves. Very frustrating as no one can find out what is wrong. Perhaps they can't connect either.
Anyway, hopefully it will be resolved and I'll let you know when it is. |
