118 118!

118 is a UK service designed to help the public find telephone numbers. It is a form of direct enquires but is quite expensive.

The Uk direct enquiries use to be contactable by dialling 192 but has recently changes to 118118. This service was made popular by the well known advert and song 118 118. The number is simple to remember and easy to use but is probably the most expensive direct enquiries on the market.

The majority of us use this service in an emergency or when we cannot contact our yellow pages or the internet and this is probably how it makes its cash on relying on how embedded this advert is in our brains.

118 118 can also provide you with train times, cinema listings and hotel information.

Recently they have provided a service where you can text a question and they will give you the answer. i.e. "where is the statue of liberty"

118 charge a whopping 69p connection charge for the service and 25p per minute after this and this is charged by the second. Therefore I would only use this service if you absolutely need to. Apparently if you dial 0800 118 3733 or 0800 118 FREE you will contact the direct enquiries for FREE.


I am not sure if this works but surely its worth a try compared to the normal number as it costs a fortune!!

Overall, a handy service but costs too much.
