Advantages: ??????
Disadvantages: Bad customer service, Not cheap
I have been with AOL for a long time now and previously had no problems with them at all until about a year ago. Firstly i was offered an upgrade to 8 mbps if i stayed with them a further 18 months so i said yes as at the time i was happy with them. Since then i have not received the upgrade but am still tied into my 18 months contract which i've been told that i can only get out of it if i pay £12 per month for the remaining months. I also moved address within this contract period and it took them 6 weeks to sort my broadband out at the new address which was excessive in my opinion.
The customer service is absolutely awful. Everytime i rang i spoke to someone who i could hardly understand who just kept reading from a script and were not listening to a word i said. I tried to be put through to a manager but was told that i wouldnt be told anything different, now that was annoying. I was told numerous dates of when i could expect my broadband to be up and running and when that day came i still couldnt connect. When i rang i was told that theres was no record to say i'd rang before or had been given this information.
I'm on the silver package which is £17.99 per month. Its a complete joke and as soon as i get to the end of my contract i will be changing service providers, it cant come soon enough.
5 years ago i would of recommended AOL when they were dial up but in the past couple of years they have gone down in my estimations.
Summary: Stay well clear

- 28/05/09 I've had a few problems with them too over the years, but it's a pain to change and one hears of problems with other providers too. |

- 24/05/09 The customer service is frustrating as once again it is a foreign call centre where they read from scripts. However, I have been with them for years now, with no problems apart form when I changed to wireless broadband, but I eventually got it sorted. I have thought about changing but know of so many friends who have had a lot of problems with other ISP's than I have ever had with AOL, I have decided it's not worth the risk! |
