Advantages: lots of services
Disadvantages: millions of popups
AOL frequently upgrade their versions which is an encouraging thing for their millions of customers. AOL was not my first Internet Service Privider but they are the company i have chosen to stick with - having been a customer for five years at present. There are a large range of features available with AOL,a few of which are up to seven email accounts so that everybody in the family can have one, parental controls so that you can be control what your children are looking at depending on their age group, a built in instant messaging service, email controls and loads of personalisation options such as backgrounds, colours and special icons for your email and messenger services. Theres homework help for the kids and medical advice as well as updated news services and entertainment news and information. As far as customer service is concerned, the AOL staff at the end of the phone are always extremely helpful, and the one time that i wished to cancel my subscription because of a problem with the service i was offered three months free access with no obligation to remain with AOL. I did stay with AOL in the end because i was pleased with the way they solved problems and their eagerness to be helpful. AOL isnt the cheapest Internet provider, £14.99 will get you a months unlimited access. But as technology is advancing they expect their customers to advance with it and are currently trying very hard indeed to push their broadband service, which is one of the most expensive around. One good thing is that upgrades to newer versions of AOL are free for subscribers, so when AOL 9.0 is available it will be free for customers to update. A disc is sent to your house from which u can install the newer version. All in all, AOL provide a good internet service, however, occasionally, it is impossible to log on to the service, often for more than a day, but it seems to be concentrated more around the middle of the afternoon, and evenings
when you cannot get logged on. This can be extremely frustrating because it always seems to happen when you need to get on the most. It can sometimes leave you feeling like its done on purpose to make sure that you arent getting the most out of your internet service. Other than that AOL is quite well run, with a different feature to suit every taste, there are dozens of chatrooms covering every topic,so everybody is likely to find something to interest them.
