We have been using AOL for about six months after having been online since 1996 using other providers from Compuserve to IC24. We are more than chuffed with the whole deal....£14.99 a month flat rate....how our phone bills have shrunk! We now pay on average about £20 a month to NTL for phone calls compared to sometimes over £100 ...  Read the complete review

Before I started with AOL I had heard all these horror stories about AOL and not being able to un-subscribe, but I though they can't be that bad, if they claim to be the worlds largest ISP, can they? The only reason why I started to use AOL was because I received a free trial disc through the door. I assume that most people use AOL ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review AOL is the best (305 words)

A.O.L Is the best, cheapest and most popular way of surfing the internet, writing e-mail and getting what you want from the net. It has an easy to use messenger witch allows you to easily add friends and family into it. This means you can keep in touch for cheaper than a normal phone call, especially if they live in another country. ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on AOL

Great, but dont install 6.0 yet ! - Advantages: Can always connect, Good online help, and they will talk to you on the phone if a severe problem (and will also do a call back to you if needed), Lots of content - Disadvantages: 6.0 is hopeless, it caused 3 of my mcs to crash, and is not recommended to be used under W98

My first ISP was AOL when V2 software was the offering of the day. That caused some problems with my creaky old 386 laptop so I was really looking forward to V3. A new laptop coincided with the arrival of V3 software, but most of the old problems were still there. Poor connection due to inadequate servers and modems, very slow and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review WARNING - AOL GETS WORSE OVER TIME (87 words)
by - written on 27/04/01 (18 readings)
Rating:

I joined AOL in November after the flat rate access package began. At first it was ok, a bit sluggish and quirky but good value. Gradually the service has deteriorated. The software logs connection times etc so if it decides you have 'had enough' you are cut off, and attempts to reconnect are met with dropped connections and abysmal web ...  Read the complete review

I have been a user of Aol since January 2001 and always seem to have problems getting connected. Basically I haven't had a very good experience with them so far. When I try to connect I put in my password etc, and can walk away leaving my computer as I know the connection isn't going to be made first/second or even third time, I get throughly ...  Read the complete review

The last time I used AOL was about 3 years ago, it was my first ISP and it was really the first time I used the internet. The only reason I changed ISP was because AOL didn't support Linux. I changed from AOL to Dircon and the first time I used Dircon I noticed a massive difference. It was faster, more reliable, and used less system ...  Read the complete review

Me being a student, i'll try anything that's free. Especially after I recieved last months phone bill, I thought it would be time to get unmetered access to the net and until broadband becomes cheaper, I thought AOL would be a good option. Wrong. Premium Review AOL: good for beginners (238 words)

AOL is a good ISP, it's fast, easy to use, value for money and extremely helpful. Although if you're used to using certain browsers and software programs, then AOL tend to do too much for you. I don't like not having my e-mail stored on my computer for offline reading, although it matters less now with flat rate access. It's not ...  Read the complete review

I decided to get AOL about two months ago, as soon as it went to a monthly fee of £15 for unlimited use. It is great, I was on the Internet for 120 hours last month, and to think how much that would have cost me if I had to pay by the minute. The thing that makes it stand out from BT and many other ISP's, is that you can go on the Internet all ...  Read the complete review

OFFERS........... AOL offer many things including their own search engine which to honestly say is slow compared to yahoo or google etc. I would recommend not to use this. Also with AOL you can use their online features rather than go online and look for things. That is you can search for holidays on AOL. Bookings at hotels, outdoor ...  Read the complete review

I bet most people don't realise that AOL cancel your account the day you telephone them.Even though you could have paid for up to 30 days further access as you have paid in advance. I was recommended AOL by a friend at work and received the disk and coincidentally went through a horrendous spell following a power surge at home! I was looking for a flat rate 24/7 ISP and AOL's 50 hour free trial (now extended to 100 hours) seemed worth a bash. I installed it, got myself going and decided pretty quickly I didn't like it. Why not? 1) The AOL application itself is slow to open 2) I have a browser. I like my internet explorer. Yet I have to ...  Read the complete review

I have been an AOL user for the past three years. Before it offered the unlimited access tariff, I was incurring charges of up to £50 on my own screenname.
