Advantages: Value For Money

Disadvantages: None

I have been a AOL customer for a few years and have mostly been happy with the service and value for money that they have always brough me although I have had a few problems here or there with them just like most AOL users but over AOL have been a very reliable internet service provider for me.

However, I have only just signed up to AOL Broadband Platinum (1MB) after being with another Broadband servive provider who made my life a living hell what with connection problems and nothing more trouble-some than trying to cancel my previous Broadband connection. I wont disclose the name of my previous Broadband provider as it would be totally unfair to put them down on a review praising a great Internet provider such as AOL. However, I shall give you a hint. It starts with the letter T and they are supposed to be "The most reliable fastest connection" around sorry I just have to disagree. But thats another subject I can review at a later date.

Due to the problems I had with my previous provider I turned to ole faithful AOL to check out the prices of their broadband connection and availability within my area and luckily for me they were able to supply me with Broadband in my area even though their prices "may have" been pretty expensive I thought from previous experience that it would be worth it.

So, I cancelled my previous provider which took over 6 weeks due to the fact they have a month notice policy even though my 12 month contract had ran out I still had to give a months notice which I find a bit ridiculous as I am sure it doesn't take that long just to disconnect someone broadband connection, believe me I am sure they would be a hell of a lot quicker disconnecting me if I was unable to pay my bill.

Anyway, I turned to AOL during the 1 month period of disconnection and explained to one of the customer services representatives my situation and they were very friendly and helpful and agreed as I was going to b
e coming to AOL broadband that they would put me on the AOL Anytime packaging which I think is about £15.99 and they would give me one month free until I could get my previous provider off of my phone line and sign up to AOL Broadband which I though was very decent of them as when you normally when you ring up any other service provider they try to get you to sign up to packages and only charge you half price but for AOL to give me an entire month free I thought that was very nice of them.

When I eventually received my AOL Broadband start up kit from AOL I was able to install it and sign online within about 15 mins and that was after some furnite moving to get to my phone socket but otherwise I am sure it would've taken no more than 10 mins to install and sign on as it was a very straight forward and easy procedure to carry out which is great as not everyone has had any experience with setting up their broadband connection but luckily for me I had broadband before so knew exactly what to do.

After signing on and setting up my AOL preferences (which is also very easy to do) I tried to download some software which I had been meaning to do for a while and I was totally amazed how quickly they downloaded on AOL Broadband Platinum compared to the normal 512 Broadband connection I had previously for example I was able to download Realplayer in just under 60 seconds where it would normally have taken me just under five minutes on my previous connection which I found totally amazing.

When I signed up to AOL Broadband Platinum they was charging £34.99 but a couple of days after I signed up they brought the price of AOL Broadband down and AOL Broadband Platinum is now only £29.99 which I think is very good quality for money especially when you consider everything you are getting for the price.

They are also currently giving a free webcam when you sign up to any of the broadband packages, its not exactly an high spec webcam but what the
hell do you expect for free?
