Advantages: No call charges, Eclectic content, Easily navigated
Disadvantages: Slow
I am a new AOL member (2 weeks old), having switched from a "premium" ISP with all the bells & whistles. The main reason for switching was constantly escalating telephone bills (0845 connection). Aol was recommended by a friend, and I signed up for an account. The set-up is straightforward and hassle free, and should not take you more than ten minutes from start to surf time! Initially the interface takes a bit of getting used to (the back, forward, home, etc... buttons are particularly fiddly), but you have the option of launching as internet explorer! The site has a wide range of topics that are well presented and organised. There is a buddy system to alert you as to when a friend is online for a chat (but I have not had the opportunity to use it). Calling customer services entailed a long wait on hold, but delivered the goods and it is 0800 access. The only notable difference form the "premium" service is the connection speed, which I hope to sort out with broadband (when it finally arrives in my area! At the moment AOL is comparing favourably with my previous ISP, which in the past has been awarded "best ISP in UK" status??? But remember I'm still on honeymoon! Watch this space!

- 13/11/01 Welcome also. I am with AOL and have been more than happy with the service.
I had a breakdown on my computer and was without it for 6 weeks, I rang them and they suspended my account. |
