Advantages: Cheap calls and texts, 48p for a sim pack

Disadvantages: Very poor signal, topping up can be a pain

Asda Mobile is a mobile phone network in the UK

You can pick up an Asda Mobile sim card in most of there stores for only48p, this includes a swipe card to enable you to top up, the sim card itself, a user guide and the sim card is pre loaded with 25p!

If you buy a £5 top up for there network at the time of buying the sim card however you can get the sim card for free and don't pay the 48p.
Although, may networks now are giving away free sim packs by filling out a few details online.

Over the years I have been on almsot every mobile phone network, my last one being Virgin Mobile whom charge 10p a text; so after seeing the Asda mobile sim pack for only 48p as texts are only a mere 4p to any network anytime.

I got the pack home and reliased that after reading the user guide you needed a unlocked mobile phone, I inserted my sim card which told me my phone wasn't so, be warned you will need to get yourphone unlocked, which costs around £15-£20 first, before you can use the sim card.

I found set up very easy, topping up wasn't that great however, Tesco, Morrisons or Iceland do not sell E-top ups for Asda nor can you use your swipe card in any of these stores!
Being my nearest Asda is 25 miles away, this was simply no good for me, but I stuck with it as the call charges are only 8p a minute to any network anytime, and texts for 4p.

The only places that you can use the Asda mobile swipe card appears to be shops with PayPoint and these places also sell E-top up vouchers for Asda too.

You can top up with your credit or debit card however, if you reister it before hand.

You can top up with amounts of £5, being the minimum upto a maxium of £50 at any one time.

I used Asda Mobile for afew months when I started to notice there signal is just to bad for me to carry on using it, it was up and down like a yoyo, I never received calls and could never hear anyone, I travel quite abit and found this not just in my area; but others too.

Asda claim that there mobile WAP internet access is cheaper than any other network on Pay as you go, I disagree with this as many networks now offer unlimited internet access from your mobile.

I rang Asda mobile customer services afew times, to register the sim card and also see if I could sort the signal problem, staff seem quite helpful but I may have just been lucky, they can be contacted for 25p per call to them via the sim card between 8am and 10pm 7 days a week.

Although there sim card is cheap at only 48p, this is only cheap if you don't have to pay £15 to have your handset unlocked, however Asda do sell cheap basic mobile phones on there network from £19 at the time of writing.

There calls and texts are very cheap, but if you do lots of calls I would recommend a different network as 8p a minute can soon rack up to quite abit, while texts at 4p are cheap, again if you send alot many networks now offer unlimited free texts by topping up a minimum amount each month.

I have since moved network and very pleased I have, I can finally make and receive calls and hear the person on the other end without the signal just dropping all of a sudden.
I also found that photo messaging failed to send alot and when I was sent some, I didn't get them for afew hours after someone had sent me them.

A great sim pack and network for the odd user who doesn't call or text very much nor who wants mobile internet and all the features.

A no frills mobile phone network without the extras

Summary: Asda Mobile wasn't for me
