Advantages: Free Phone
Disadvantages: Total disinterest
Having read the reviews of Be I thought that perhaps it might be worth switching to them. So I rang their sales line to ask some questions.
My first question was "I have my own Netgear router, can I use that" I asked this as I had read that the one they supply is not very good. The answer I got was in a very disinterested voice and told me that they would not be able to supply any support if I used any other router. I followed up by saying "are you telling me that you would not be able to offer any support at all if I use a different router" His answer was again lethargic in the extreme and quite honestly I couldn't really understand what he was saying.
So I continued " So if I have a any problem and I ring up, I will get the response that you cannot help" , he replied in the affirmative and at no point did he try to defend their routers and as a sales person I would not think he could sell water in the middle of the Sahara Desert.
I said I would seek another ISP and did not bother with my other questions
If this is an example of the customer service I would get, then No Way Hosea
Summary: Pity as the performance looked promising

- 06/08/09 In response to soundsexcitings comments I can only say that this completely supports what my initial review said. That I would have expected the representative I spoke with to give a positive response to my inquiry, rather than a "if you don't take our router, thats your problem" attitude.
I also agree with the suggestion of giving them another chance and this is because of all the reports on ISPs, those on here for BE are the most positive. I am awaiting a call from someone at BE to discuss my call and hopefully this will lead to a happy conclusion.
Can I suggest to other reviewers that they look closely at the dates of reviews on some sites as often these are way out of date and things can change very quickly in the Internet provision field, particularly with takeovers. One reason I have been cautious with Be as they are nhow part of another company and there is always a possibility that this will impact on their performance, hopefully not. |

- 05/08/09 Going back to your experience, the truth is that BE WILL offer support but their advice will be based on the assumption that you are using one of their routers. So problems with speed, line issues etc which are not related to the router will be dealt with without any problems. Issues that have a direct bearing on the router will be a little more tricky. My last support call with them for instance related to problems connecting to my work network from home. They suggested that I change one of the settings on their supplied router. I took that advice and changed the equivalent setting on my netgear router and my problem was resolved. I don't work for BE but I would give them another chance. They are still in my humble opinion the best ISP out there with an excellent user forum where people are very eager to help each other. |

- 05/08/09 I don't think you understand how to rate review. You don't rate on whether you agree with the review. You rate on whether it is a review that helps you make you mind up on a particular product/service.
I've had a pretty positive experience with BE and although I don't agree with your review it is still useful for other people to help them make up their mind.
Incident ally, I have a netgear router and have just closed a support call with BE so they do support you. I suspect you may have just got a 'wally' at the end of the phone when you contacted them :) |
