Advantages: Fast, Cheap
Disadvantages: None
Blue Yonder appears to be what the WWW has been waiting for. As a household that uses the Internet a lot we have always been looking for the best deals, RedHotAnt were good, the free internet company were a joke and when Blue Yonder was reccomended we had it fitted purely because it was quite cheap. £25 per month gets you unlimited access to the internet at speeds I have not seen outside University before. The very fact that you are getting unlimited access for £25 should be enough for most but the fact that you often access the internet at 3 times the speed of an ISDN line makes it even better. The fastest we have managed so far is 388,000 kbps (leave your own best speeds in the comments section). We also networked the connection to other (older) computers in the house and these manage a respectable 160,000 kbps. It took about a week for Blue Yonder to send someone over to the house and they completed the whole installation inside 2 hours. This was helped by the fact that we already had cable fitted to the house so they did not need to dig up any of the driveway or front lawns. Once they had installed the external modem in the Master Study they quickly went about installing all the programs on the computer and I was accessing the Internet after only 2 hours. Since then we have tested their customer support a number of times as we have purchased new computers. I will stress the point that we have never had to contact them regarding a problem with the system. Downloading files is where the new connection is most noticeable and speeds of 70K/sec are very common. I am not totally sure what maximum connection speeds and download speeds Blue yonder is capable of but I will update this opinion with those statistics when I find out. Overall, If you are able to have blue yonder installed in your area then I would strongly advise it. Having been thru a number of ISPs I can say that this obliterates them all. Ultra fast connection and down
load speeds, great customer support, cheap price. What more are you asking for? PS - Ignore any of the old opinions on the topic as, like all new products, I am told that Blue Yonder had some teething problems when it was introduced last year. I can assure you that they are no longer there. UPDATE - Some problems have occured with the blue yonder service recently but have been resolved. Maybe it isn't as perfect as I initially thought but it is still a great service.

- 30/07/01 Good op, but what the hell is a "Master" study - you have more than one study ? (the mind truly boggles) |

- 28/07/01 49,600bps, and more commonly 48,000 or 46,600........AND, no 24/7 access......Still have to pay per minute (80p per hour) here in Ireland.....Ken (the "green with envy" mad cabbie) |
