Advantages: speed, price
Disadvantages: none
I have only one word to describe broadband and that it EXCELLENT. Yes as you can tell i love the extra speed that the Blueyonder 512k connection gives me but i must also say that it is very reliable aswell. Having made the decision to go with broadband i confirmed my order with Telewest and a installation date was set , this was 4 days which i thought was very good indeed. Two engineers set about the task and all was going fine until we hit a problem , my network card would not talk to the motorola surfboard modem but some key tapping and several commands from the engineer soon solved this little problem. The servie is capped at 512k and this results in download speeds averaging approx 60k per sec so Telewests boasts about the service being ten time faster than a dial up connection do prove correct. I have had the connection for just over 5 months and in that time i would say i have experienced approx 5-6 hours downtime and most of this was taken up in one individual case . The cost of boradband is falling as the market becomes more competitive and i hear Telewest are currently running a special offer that gives you your first 3 months broadband at normal dial up rates so hey why not take the plunge ? . I would say the only downside to this great service is that the internet can be awfully slow when you find yourself having to use a v90 modem !!!.

- 07/05/02 I really want broadband but can't justify the cost at the moment. Unfortunatley I dont think we can get blueyonder in our area but I will certainly think about getting some kind of broadband as soon as I can. Jo |

- 03/05/02 " ... 60K per second ..."? My moden is connected at 44,000 bps ...". I am tempted but isit really worth the extra £12 a month over my Freeserve Anytime?
Especia lly since Telewest in Edinburgh are more than capable of mucking up everything they touch .... |
