Advantages: Zero
Disadvantages: Loss of freedom and if your not wily a loss of serious cash!
British Telecommunications - The company name is now a contradiction in terms. They are not particularly British, each time I call them I speak to poor sod in New Delhi or Bombay or some other distant place and they have no clue as to where in the UK I am from and have no idea what the hell they can do to help me!
Communications - I think BT's idea of communicating went down the pan about 15 - 20 years ago, the only thing that they can effectively communicate nowadays is "we are a big company who skimp on customer service so that we can make a few extra quid".
We as with the rest of the UK have to deal with BT if you require a landline, they own the whole kit and caboodle and therefore you have no bloody way of getting away from them, we had BT services for about 18 months and decided we wanted away as their customer service ability is crap, so we contacted Sky and said we wanted to take their Sky Talk package, it was all arranged and we even received a letter from BT stating that "We are sorry you are leaving us......"
On the day this changeover was mean't to occur the following situation occurred and it became farcical, Sky went in to connect the line their own servers, at the same time BT disconnected all our services, therefore making it impossible for Sky to connect us, we contacted BT who stated that they no longer had the line so it was not their problem, we then contacted Sky who stated that they had tried to get the line but BT had disconnected before they could connect, so that was it our landline was now in mid air between BT & Sky.
We called BT the day after this and after numerous phone calls, emails etc they stated they would reconnect us - This they did and we received two bills one for disconnecting (which we didn't) and one for reconnecting (Their cock up so why where they charging us!)
So now, we are back at square one, we have a BT line on their lowest package and daren't swap to any other provider due to the cock ups and the extra bills they dish out.
My advice to anyone is, if you wish to contact their customer services, email them, this way, you have two advantages, one you can keep a record of all conversations with them and secondly, for some strange reason, you seem to always get a response from a British person who actually lives in Britain!
Good Luck!
Summary: Escape with your life.....if they will let you!!!
