Advantages: fast, efficient, helpful, and willing to do their best to serve
Disadvantages: call costs are slightly higher,
Like thousands of other BT customers, I had long held a very jaundiced view of BT - the usual arguments that they were a monopoly; gave poor service etc etc. So when it came to moving home last month, I thought I'd ditch BT for one of their competitors.... Why oh why??? The saying "Better the devil you know" has never been more applicable! Basically I was completely screwed around by NTL (should stand for No Telephone Lines), who took my order for a new phone line on the 14th of August, and have yet to deliver the goods. After five weeks of waiting for NTL, and one cancelled appointment, I decided that I would return to BT. In all honesty I expected a big delay from them as well, having heard previous horror stories from friends. How wrong could I be? Very! BT were falling over themselves to install my new line. Having explained that I currently had no phone line, they said they would make my installation a priority, and managed to install a line within a week (bearing in mind that this was at the end of the fuel crisis (NTL's poor excuse for cancelling my installation), I consider this service to be nothing short of marvellous. The great thing about BT is that they have the resources to do things properly. NTL said that the earliest installation they could offer was 5 weeks after the cancelled appointment - BT did it in 4 days. BT also managed to turn up on time, were very pleasant and friendly when installing, and have made numerous courtesy calls throughout the process to ensure that everything is fine. NTL on the otherhand have failed to deliver, employ crap customer service staff, and have far too few staff to be able to deliver. In short, if you want a reliable service, go to BT. You may not save money, but at the end of the day service is what counts - clearly in the telecoms market you get what you pay for.
