BT - bad thinking

Advantages: Good value calls, excellent phone line connection (clear calls)
Disadvantages: Poor customer service, no customer empathy, made to suffer for their errors
Having moved into my flat over 2 years ago I had done as most people do and contacted BT to get my phoneline setup which thankfully went well and I had no issues with the company until I got slightly fed up with being billed mid-month and so gave them a phone to see what we could do to sort this.
I contacted BT's billing helpline and after about 10 minutes on hold got through and spoke to a guy who said it would not be a problem and that they would just change my direct debit date and that my billing would just remain as normal (I was paying using the whole direct debit scheme to clear my bill in full each month) so I agreed to go with this. When I returned from my honeymoon I found a bill on my mat that made no sense and so contacted BT to ask why they were billing me like this and was told that they had changed over my payment plan to make me pay 3 months in advance as it was not as simple as just changing the payment date. I explained that this was their error and so I would not be paying the bill and was told that the bill was generated and they could not do anything about it so I threatened to leave their company and was told that although it was their error I should just pay the bill and it would resolve itself over a few months time and I would likely be due a refund. I gave the cancellation team a call and explained the situation to them and got told once again that once a bill is generated they can't ammend it even if it is their error so I decided to leave them.
Thankfully leaving BT is easy as when you contact your new phone provider they do all of the cancellation and transfer for you. Since moving over to Sky Talk (who I have found great) I have had letters from BT asking me to go back to them but I would never go back to them and could not recommend them.
Summary: I have to say that they are best avoided
